I was wondering if anyone else out there was hypothyroid and what your experiences have been on this diet. I've been doing it a week and already feel less fatigue. I have had so much of a struggle with weight loss, and I'm hoping this will be different.
Thanks

I'm borderline, have had lots of trouble losing weight in the past, but SBD seems to be working well for me. Eating low GI is the best thing for me.

| Hey there Raddish, I am on medication for my low thyroid problems. I started SB around 4 weeks ago. I had my blood checked to renew my prescription. My thyroid was off so he put me on a stronger pill. I went back and took more blood to see how the meds were working. That was too strong now. Doc put me on a lower pill but higher then the start. I don't know if it is SB or not, but it is helping my thyroid I think. I go back in one month to see if the newer meds are working. I have no other side effects since being on SB but eating better. |

I'm glad for the input. I was diagnosed with pretty severe hypothyroid last year, was treated for a few months, then had insurance issues and had to go off meds.
That's all cleared up now and I'm going to do lab work monday morning to see where I am at. Then I will restart meds if I need to. I took synthroid before.
I just really have had a hard time losing weight for years now and I think my thyroid must be to blame. But I'm down six pounds so far (I'm on day 10 or p1) and I'm hopeful. I think the combination of this diet, all the exercise I'm doing, and meds will really help. We'll see! |

I'm hypothyroid diagnosed 3 years ago. I've been on Synthroid ever since. I've also tried T3 therapy and it turns out my T4 to T3 conversion is fine, so I went off. I am not overweight, but I'm overfat. I started exercising a few months before I was diagnosed and loved the energy it gave me, but I didn't see many results. Once diagnosed the weight fell off. 15 lbs in 3 months! I was able to keep it off for another 1.5 years, but since then I've gone up 10 lbs seemingly over night and cannot get it off not matter what I try. I work out 4-5 days a week weight training and running (sometimes up to 6 days, even) and I've tried weight watchers, atkins and sbd p1 but never lost a pound. Body for Life worked well for me but is SO hard to stick to! My aunt has Epstein Barr and is on PII of SBD and has lost 3 pant sizes in a year, but she FEELS so much better. Since I felt so awful on Atkins and P1 of SBD (which is what made me quit), I decided to try PII. I've lost 2 lbs in 4 weeks but it's better than what I've done in a year and a half so I'm sticking to it. I haven't had bread, pasta or potatoes (I'm so sad about the potatoes) in all that time, but I have cheated occasionally with chocolate. I have to stop doing that. Anyway, my point here is that I feel so much better eating this way to the point that, when I do cheat, I feel awful - physically. The weight may be slow, but give it time. For me, the other benefits far outweight (pun intended!) the weight loss. I just wish I could get the body fat under control!
Good luck! |

I've been on levothroid for the past 5 or 6 years and an increase in dosage about 3 years ago. I'm getting retested next week, along with cholesterol, and will let you know if it went up/down/stayed the same.
When I went on the levothroid, I didn't have any weight loss. If I don't take it (say if I've run out and forgot to get more), then my moods go all wacko. I have a feeling the test will say that there has been no change. But we'll see. |

I have been on Synthroid for 5 years. I have atypical Graves and the radioactive iodine wipped out my thyroid function. I still show some of the other parts of Graves, dry eyes, dry mouth, type II diabetis, etc.
What the SBD menas to me is that I must see my physician every 6 weeks to see if the weight reduction will cause a change in my Synthroid level.
As far as my activity level goes, I seem to be a lot more active but my endurance is slightly lagging. Both my free weight training and my arobics are at an 80% level. Since I only 6 days into phase 2, this should change. |

| I have been using Synthroid for 22 years now - was dx as a teenager... mine stayed the same all thru pregnancies and with weight gain.... I did go onto a slightly smaller dose about 2 years ago for some strange reason... I do find it harder to loose weight, but SB has been really good for me... 15 lbs in 4 weeks... without a ton of heavy exercise (no BFL level that is for sure)... |

My problem is that I am now addicted to weight lifting! I do it over other forms of exercise.
I just surprises me the number of people taking Syntthroid. |

One more 'hypothyroid-taking-Synthroid' for 15 years checking in
I tend to feel tired, cold and have been putting on weight. Since I started on the diet, I lost 5 lbs but then I felt so drained and tired, almost to the point of passing out so I've upped my intake of carbs. Hopefully, it won't backfire on me. |

Just as a suggestion, see your physician on this. For me, it was my physican who suggested/ordered me on the SBD. He wants me in for blood thyroid-hormone tests every 5 to 6 weeks so he can adjust the Synthroid level with the weight loss. Since my energy level went up as my weight went down in phase 1, I got a feeling that my Synthroid level may be cut slightly.
From my point of view, adding carbsearly on should be the option. |

| I am so glad to see this up here - I was wondering how other hypos were doing on the beach. I gained 40 lbs after my Thyroid hit the skids. This is the first time I have been able to successfully lose weight - 20 down, 10 to go! |

Hi,
It's good to hear all your successes. :D I was on a non fat diet for a year and didn't lose anything. then found out I had hypothyroid. I take Levoxyl.
I still didn't lose anything. But now on SB I am losing. I was afraid it would stop at some point but you all just gave me hope.
I gotta eat this way whether I lose or not because it works for my hypoglycemia. But I am losing! :D |

Hypo on Armour here! I was doing step-aerobics and walking and still gaining weight. Attributed it to menopause and discovered I was hypo. I still think it is menopause induced hypothyroidism....anyway was on 90 mg of Armour and after 3 weeks on SB I have cut back to 60 mg. My goal is to be completely off thyroid. Listen to your body. You're the only one that know what's saying :)
It's great to see others experiencing the health benefits of this way of eating. I just want to know why it took me so long to find it. |

Hi easin'on down- I'm on Armour too- was on synthroid for 3 yrs. Then Dr switched back to the 'animal' based thyroid hoping it would give me more energy. Unfortunately it didn't! About 2-3 p.m. I have a slump at which I would love to lay my head down at my work desk and nap for 30 minutes! Are you still tired?
I exercise, eat right, but probably don't get enough sleep- about 6 hours a night.
