I am on day 5 of phase 1 and all week I have suffered from very restless nights - not just waking up but tossing and turning as well. Has this happened to anyone else? I expected to sleep well with all that healthy food and no alcohol.

I had some trouble sleeping, but it's not every night. I try to clear my mind and either a) read or b) play gameboy before I doze of. When I'm reading, I turn on a very dim light and that makes me sleepy, or if I'm playing the GBA, I leave the light off because the screen is lit up. If you concentrate on your breathing it will help you relax as well. So grab a good pillow and great pjs... and get a game boy ;)

I hope something works for you.

Saving your milk for near bedtime might help too.

I have the same problem in P2 and did not seem to notice in P1, so I am just chalking it up to the stress associated with the holidays and bad road conditions here. Last night I finally got up and took some metamucil with milk and fell asleep immediately, probably because it fills me up and because of the "soother" in the milk.

I definitely remember people reporting interrupted sleep, wilder dreams, other sleep problems during Phase 1. I think it was temporary - just part of adjusting to the new diet. It should be over before too long.

I remember waking up in the middle of the night a few times early in SBD and not being able to get back to sleep. This passed quickly - it hasn't happened in a very long time.

something else you might try is having a couple pieces of turkey breast (deli meat or the real thing if you just cooked one!) an hour or so before you go to bed. Turkey is very rich in the amino acid L-Tryptophan, which helps you get to sleep. Makes sense if you think about it......pre SBD, you eat a big T'giving meal, lots of turkey, then you get drowsy and don't feel like doing anything, consequently remaining inactive after eating a humongous meal.

I didn't have that issue with SBD (that I recall)... but I definitely had it when I was on MediFast years ago. It should go away with P2. A couple years ago I was suffering from frequent bouts of insomnia... regular exercise is what finally stopped the insomnia! Even now, if I go without working out for several days in a row I will have difficulty sleeping. You might try increasing your activity to see if that helps!

I also had very restless nights for the first few days. I would be wandering around the house at 3 in the morning.

I now do yoga every night before bed and find it relaxes me so much I sleep all night.

Hope this helps.

exercise is the key to sleeping at night and a protien before bed as peacefulpath suggested.

you are eating all this healthy food which is energizing your body. You need to burn off that energy by exercising. I usually sleep great on days I exercise.

except for those nights I have a lot of pain but, that is a whole different story.

What time of day do you exersise, yellobeauty? I like to exersise at night, but I find that it "energizes" me so much that unless I collapse on my bed IMMEDIATELY after I'm done, I don't really feel "tired" at bedtime, but rather full of energy and the good-mood endorphins.

Currently, I haven't exersised in a month or two, and am planning on starting a regimen next week. Not sure where to slip it in. Morning, or night... Maybe afternopon while my son is sleeping??

Hi, i was in the same situation a few weeks ago. And Yellowbeauty is right, exercise is important :!: . As for when to do it, i would suggest 2 light workouts a day. One in the morning and one at night. That way you'll be burning more calories and energy at the same time. :D

Light exercise is good as the earlier posts say. Being strict about caffiene (even decafe) during the day helps a lot. A cup before bed of Sleepytyme tea, or any herbal tea with camomille helps.

Try afternoons that way your winding down by night time plus if your son is asleep you can concentrate on what your doing. I have had this problem for years so I've gotten use to it. Most of the time I just get up go get a drink tinker around for 10 minutes and then go back to bed I have a walkman with a tape of ballads from my favorite artists and if that fails me I have one of those mood cds with rain and the sea and I take deep breathes. Remove head phones before your totally asleep or you could wake up thinking your being strangled
