I'm curious what diets everyone's tried and what foods they ate while they were on it. Like who's done the South Beach or the Sugar-Buster's or Atkin's or Carbohydrate Addicts?

I have done Atkins, South Beach, Carbohydrates Addicts, Curves, Weight Watchers, Slim fast, I can't remember what else. I've stayed on all these diets for about a week, if not less. Except the South Beach. I've been on that since March, but I can't seem to stick with it. But I'm not going to give up on it, I've given up on everything else

I tried Slim Fast, lost 15# doing the 2 bars/day thing, with a "healthy" dinner, was STARVING the entire month and gained the weight back within 2 weeks of stopping the bars...MUCH more satisified with my results on SB!

I have "done them all" and stayed with Weight Watchers for 35 years (on and off) until I simply could not lose another pound and was 15 lbs from goal. After maintaining my weight, plus the extra 15 pounds, I decided to try SB towards the end of last May. I am now at goal weight and so glad to have kicked the bread/potatoes habit!

P.S. DH is down 30 lbs.

Let's see...

I've done WW on and off since I was 12 (and not really fat - I think my mom just wanted someone to go with her!!). The last and most serious attempt was a couple of months ago and I just couldn't stick with it although I did lose 60 pounds on it back in 2001 (subsequently gaining 40 back).

I've done the FoodMover from Richard Simmons where I was starving all day. I lost some pounds but they reappeared once I started eating.

I've done Atkins. That lasted about a week or so. Blech.

That's about it. I haven't tried Slim Fast because it seems so unnatural to me. I mean, how does that teach me about real FOOD?! Same with Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, etc.

I've been on SBD for 2 1/2 weeks now and I will tell you that I have NEVER felt more in control of my eating before. NEVER. I'm loving this!! :-D

Here's a good good-carb recipe. I copied it from www.savvyfaire.com. For Pork Chops you need a :

Lean bone in pork chop or boneless pork chop
Olive oil
Salt (preferably Kosher or sea salt)
Pepper
Celery seed
Ground cumin

Coat the pork chop with the olive oil. Salt on both sides like a light snow fall and don’t over salt then grind on some black pepper. Sprinkle on celery seed and a generous amount of ground cumin on each side. Place on hot grill until done and the inside temperature of the pork is 160-170 degrees Fahrenheit (just pink on the inside, about 3-5 minutes per side).

the question should be what diet haven't I tried over the years from crazy ones like lecitin, kelp and vinegar diet, the Beverly Hills diet all fruit Stillman, Atkins, Blood type you name it..Oh yeah and my personal favorite Cabbage Soup Diet...You loose on all of them then you gain it back...I am doing nicely on South Beach but terrified it won't last.....Now I am trying to convince myself I am just a food addict, a real junkie and I keep telling myself, I got over smoking and drinking I can get over eating too...

Hey all you low carb dieters, it turns out you can eat some carbs. Check out: http://info.savvyfaire.com. They say that it’s better to eat foods with low glycemic content. Thank God, I was getting tired of eating so much meat.

LOL Putchikins! I forgot all about Stillman. I remember a line from a comedian (Chris Rush) who was on that one. He said, "I eat meat, drink water, and s*** like a shark!" Yea, I tried that, Atkins (original one, back in 70's), Slimfast, various incarnations of WW, low-fat/high carb, and numerous types of pills.
WW always worked - and I was ALWAYS starving. Made Lifetime, though.....then got pregnant and gained it back and then some. Atkins was a joke - I was a teenager and lived on peanut butter. Of course the pills worked - and was walking around like a speed freak. Forget Slimfast - my blood sugar dropped so low I had zero energy, and naturally I started stuffing my face to get it back. Now, the low-fat......that was my biggest success. Lost 52 lbs with that, although couldn't shake the last 15 I needed to lose. Sadly, I gradually started eating more fat, although I always used FF products, and more and more breads and starches creeped back into my diet, as well as sugar. Gained back 38 of those 52 lbs before I was introduced to SB a few weeks ago.

I bought the book at BJ's ($10 cheaper!) as well as the Good Carbs/Good Fats book. Read both twice through before starting to make sure I understood everything as well as possible - definitely DIFFERENT from anything I've ever done. Honestly, this is the best thing I've ever seen - healthy AND makes sure you're never hungry. Now THAT's a concept I've never seen before!

The Glycemic Index can be a little confusing. I know that Savvy Faire Cuisine specializes in a low GI diet. There’s websites that give pretty good info about it as well. I like http://info.savvyfaire.com and http://www.diabetesnet.com/diabetes_food_diet/glycemic_index.php is pretty insightful... There’s books as well that compiles recipes, lists, and a life plan. Hope I helped.

Hmm, it's almost easier to ask which diets I haven't tried! I have done Weight Watchers, Slimfast (I actually gained!), Mayo Clinic, some diet with TJs miracle soup, the Zone, Atkins (which worked until I went off of it) and hypnosis. I am starting South Beach tomorrow with my husband, so hopefully it will work better than the rest of them.

I think brown rice is ok, I know it is lower on the GI scale. I've been eating it and I've been fine.
