This is a new thread for diabetics who are following the guidelines of the South Beach Diet.
Welcome aboard, everyone! :) :)
We're glad that you found us and hope that you will join us. The purpose of this thread is for diabetics on the SBD to support and encourage each other and learn from each others' experiences as diabetics on the South Beach Diet. Others are also welcome here to learn about our experiences on the SBD.
There are no rules other than to be kind to each other... and most anything is fine as a topic for discussion.
A few weeks after I joined this forum I began to wonder how other diabetics in this forum were doing on the South Beach Diet. And I posted a message to all of the subforums to see if there were other diabetics in this forum. Sure enough, there are lots of us.
Our forum administrator made a new subforum for people with health and medical issues such as diabetes to discuss. That's great ... hopefully other diabetics will find us here more easily. Thanks to our admin for setting up this subforum.
'Looking forward to getting to know you and learning from you as we go along. We have much in common as we follow the path to better health for us diabetics, friends, and families on the South Beach Diet. This is a permanent change that we are making. Let's always remember that and then make it so. |

Cetaganda, I applaud your efforts for helping to set up a separate forum on health issues and particularly this thread on diabeties. But there are now so many threads it is hard to figure out which one is the "real" one. Maybe try and send a PM (private message) to Nikaki who is one of our moderators and see if she can either "Sticky" whatever thread you want to be the official one, and/or see if she can merge the non-duplicative posts from all the different threads into your official thread and delete the rest. Despite your best efforts, I am afraid with so many threads, people will just use whichever one they see first and keep propogating their posts in the wrong place.
Good luck to all who fight this disease!! |

Hi Pat,
I am sorry for all the confusion I have created trying to get everyone to this thread ... there are three other diabetics on the beach threads. I hope that this is soon straightened out for everyone.
I saw your private messages to me. I was answering one of them about how to get to this new thread. Then I took a look and saw that your had already found your way here. That's great! I'm so glad to see you here. I hope that everyone else makes it here, too. I will do what I can to make it so.
About the question: how would you like us to post? The answer is post as usual ... no rules. Just post whatever you like, as before. :D
How are you doing today, Pat? How are your blood sugar measurements going? Are they trending downward? What are you eating today?
I am doing well today. Feeling quite full, probably ate too much vegetarian (bean) chili for lunch, along with a baby spinach salad. Should have made my chili portion smaller, I think.
For breakfast today I had two frozen whole wheat waffles with blueberries and sugar-free syrup and 1 1/2 scrambled eggs with a few shreds of the new Smart Balance cheese. I didn't have a snack ... but I did have a cup of decaf coffee with some Land of Lakes fat free half and half. Did you know that it has corn syrup in it??? I won't use that stuff anymore unless a recipe asks for just a little of it. I am trying to get rid of sugar in my diet. I also added some sugar free DaVinci vanilla syrup. It makes the coffee sooooo good.
For dinner I am planning to have 1/2 lean dijon mustard pork chop with a few bread crumbs, tabbouli (bulgar salad with parsley, tomatoes, cucumbers, green onions, lemon juice, olive oil, spices), and some vegetables cooked on my large George Foreman grill. I just love cooking on that grill ... makes everything cook so fast and I have learned to make the clean up very easy.
Dessert tonight will probably be a small square of dark chocolate and probably a non fat sugar free fudgecycle.
How about you? And what are your favorite desserts and snacks? Do you eat a lot of vegetables? I have never eaten so many vegetables and salads in my life, especially since I have been an adult.
This is the fourth day of blood sugar measuring for me. So far my morning (first thing) BS levels: 117, 108, 117, 108
I am going to do like you and take my Avandia right after the morning stick. Thanks for that advice, Pat.
Thanks for being here with us. :D :D |

Excellent feedback, redroxco. Good idea to ask Nikaki for help. Will do.
I am glad that you found the thread that I want to be the gathering place. I will do everything I can to get rid of the confusion as soon as possible.
Thanks! |

Hi Pat,
If you like chocolate, like me, I can recommend eating one little square of a dark chocolate bar .... the lower the sugar the better.
I have not tried the ricotta dessert yet .... it's about time. I bought the ricotta a couple of weeks ago ... I'm going to make it for dessert tonight.
Thanks! And how is your day going?

So sorry  to hear that you had an insect bite that is hurting you so much, Pat. I truly hope that you don't have a similar experience to the last insect bite you had. And I hope you have a wonderful vacation.

Cetaganda is the title of one of the books that is part of the Vorkosigan series, whose main character is Miles Vorkosigan. It is science fiction / fantasy. I liked the series so much that I chose Cetaganda as my user name.. L M Bujold's books are very popular ... I found out about them from my husband, who had already read all of the Vorkosigan series.
If you are interested, here is a link to an amazon.com page that lists all of the LM Bujold's Vorkosigan series books. You can click on any of the books and see reviews of the books. http://tinyurl.com/4z9jm
And here's a link to the book, Cetaganda: http://tinyurl.com/4sajb
BTW: If I hadn't used tinyurl.com to make a short link, this is what the link would have looked like:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0671877011/ref=pd_ser_oe_7/103-3850613-5955848?v=glance&s=books&st=*
Amazing difference using tinyurl.com to shorten the link!! I use tinyurl.com all the time now.
More later ... :D |

Oh Pat,
So very, very sorry that the insect bite was abscessed. How sad and just awful for you :!:
It must be very upsetting and discouraging to have to deal with this abscess, especially just before your vacation starting Sunday.
I hope that the Cipro 1000 mg helps you get well soon and that you do not have to have it cut open and have to have your legs up for a couple of months.
You are very much in my thoughts and prayers, Pat. I am truly sorry that this happened to you again. |

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. This is part of being diabetic.
I will know for sure if i can get in to the center tommorrow. I am praying that it doesn't have to be open. But being open will releive the pressure but i will still be in pain. And it will ruin the vacation. I have been crying all night over it. Because hubby was mad about the whole thing. It is the 4th time in the last 3 years that we had to deal with my legs. The first sore i had was from ciculation and it took 2 years to heal. And last year it was a bug bite on the good leg that took 4 months to heal and now this on the bad leg. I want everyone to be aware of this. I want everyone that has diabetes to check there legs and feet daily. And my sugars are normal like a normal person without diabetes.
At first i thought it was from walking and my legs rubbing together, But the doctor confirm it was a insect bite of some kind. I wanted to share this with all you guys. Because this is what we all face with diabetes. |
