| Has anyone else experienced this? I have STRICTLY kept to this diet. I've maintained my exercise routine (jogged 3x and white water rafted this week). I've eaten straight out of the book except I skipped dessert. I'm on day 5 and I have terrible cramps that get worse with each meal or cup of tea today. Anybody else experienced this? |

Are you taking Metamucil (psyllium)? That doubles me over with cramps. It would help if you post what you are eating. Also, where are the cramps, in your stomach, or below...or muscle cramps? Some people don't do well with extreme exercise on P1, especially if you are not eating allowed good carbs, like beans. You may also be lacking in trace minerals.
If tea gives you cramps, could you possibly have a stomach ulcer?
Perhaps you should call your doctor...

| sometimes all those extra veggies can give you gas and cramps  . Also many people find that sugar substitutes cause intestinal pain. Have you replaced sugar with aspartame? That stuff kills my stomache. |

I am so embarassed to be posting this, but I really need some advice and when I saw this thread, I thought I'd join in...
I'm on day 4 of the SBD and am experiencing the same thing -- major intestinal cramping and bloating... and yes, gas and some constipation  Is this really sort of typical for some people? Please share any experiences you've had with this!
I've been following the diet more or less to the letter-- drinking lots of water, very little caffeine (only 1 c. caffeinated coffee in the a.m., decaf rest of day, if I have any), maybe one can of diet sode per day (a little treat at lunch -- caffeine-free, though!), eating basically from the meal plans for P1 in the SBD book with some tweaking -- I don't like fish, tomatoes or mushrooms, so I tend to leave those out recipes out or at least adjust them.
Today I've had a plain omelette (eggs with some black pepper), turkey, vegetable juice and coffee with 1% milk and Sweet-n-Low (which I've used for a long time and not had any sort of reaction to). For a snack, I had two part-skim mozzarella cheese strings and 10 almonds (I picked at these throughout the morning b/c I knew I'd be having a late lunch). For lunch I had a green salad with a little bit of grated cheese and cooked chicken on the side; I've not yet felt the need for an afternoon snack. I've consumed about 2L of water so far today.
I can't see why this would be making me feel this way, but maybe I'm missing something. I've tried the Atkins thing, and do not recall having had this problem. I've actually been considering Metamucil, but am curious as to what effect that would have on the chemistry of the SBD.
I really hope someone has some suggestion/advice/input for me -- I have lost in these few days, and really want to continue with the diet.
Thanks! |

Fortuntely the cramping only lasted that one day. I experienced the same problem years ago when I briefly went vegetarian. So maybe it's just withdrawal from foods that my body is used to. But I stuck with this, cramps or not.
My meals really are straight out of the book so there's the answer to what I've been eating - 30 pistachio. one low-fat laughing cow wedge or string cheese snacks, egg-white omelettes fried in olive oil, no crouton caesar salads, etc. No caffeine, no sugar substitue, no soda. No Metamucil. Remind me: why do I want to take it? Is it only if needed for constipation or to aid the diest?
I think I may have lost 2 or 3 pounds, maybe more. My clothes fit looser but I don't have a scale to know for sure. I want to get rid of all remnants of a spare tire, fatback, and to slim my thighs down to where they don't rub together uncomfortably when I walk or run. The food variety is fine with me as far as how everything tastes.
Thanks you guys. This is the first time I've been in a message board and it is nice to be in it with you. |

Metamucil does many things, number one is helps relieve constipation. It also makes you feel full quicker when taken 1/2 hour before eating. For some, it helps lower bad cholesterol. The most important thing about taking any fiber suppliment is to drink another glass of water after taking it, or it can block you up instead of helping...
