Yellobeuty, have you been tested on eggs separately, egg yolks and egg whites? Eggbeaters are egg whites, no yolks.
I consider myself still on SBD, altho I am vegan and eat no animal products, and the only grain type foods I eat are quinoa and wild rice. This week I stopped eating nuts, and am feeling better. My diet consists of beans, 1-2 servings a day, veggies, more veggies, and then some more veggies. I also eat 1-2 servings a day of low GI fruit, and a little non-diary cheese. I've recently added 1 serving of oats a week, and seem to be doing ok with that.
When I talked to my allergist about SBD last year, he told me the best diet I could ever be on is one where I'm not reacting to the foods I eat, the fact that my diet isn't balanced isn't as important as the fact that I am not constantly bomparding my body with food reactions.
So, my advice to you is avoid any foods completely that you know you have a problem with, and then look for other foods as you go along that seem to cause problems. If you can't stop eating a food, that is a sign of food allergy! Personally, I'd rather be able to breathe than eat any wheat...I haven't had any at all for over a year. I tried a little a few months ago, and couldn't walk for 3 days! I know it is difficult, but so is being very overweight and not being able to breathe, or in my case, walk. I used to have asthma, I know mold exposures cause it in me, but I believe so did foods. I haven't had any asthma at all for 10 years, since I became vegan.
Good Luck

Burdle, Thank you so much for responding. I was feeling sad thinking that maybe others would think I wasn't following sb and I do need these boards for support. I am very lonely without them.

anyway, on a good note. I lost 3 lbs. in two weeks! that is a miracle for me and I'm taking it! Just think it might have been more if I hadn't cheated on superbowl.

I am going to copy and past your post to my journal just because I want it there to remind me.

My dr. told me this morning that our new shoprite has a whole isle on gluten free foods. She wants me to go there and get stuff. and I love the quinoa(sp?) pasta. so i'm good there.

Wheat free and gluten free here I come.

my allegy to the eggs is only the yolk, but my endo had told me to not eat any eggs because of my tri's. But, I think only the yolk effects them too?

how do you become a vegan. I mean is that only eating veggies and organic foods? no dairy, etc.? can you give me a web site link on my jounal? Just wondering.

Thanks so much for all your help! I feel like you gave me a life line and made me feel like I wasn't losing it. :D Dwier also helped a lot with info on wheat and gluten intolerance info. That's how I first fiquered out I might be allergic.

Talked to my dr today and she said not to do the blood test. She said just to eliminate it and if i lose weight go with it. :D She is trying to save me money because she knows I don't have any :D

THANKS AGAIN!

A vegan eats no animal products at all. Eating organic is great, but not necessary to be vegan. Sorry, I don't look at vegan websites much as they rely a lot on grains and soy...
There is a difference between being gluten free and grain free...quinoa and wild rice are not considered grains. The only quinoa pasta I've ever seen that is wheat free has corn in it, which is not SBD friendly, and is considered a grain. I would suggest you eat plain quinoa instead. If you have a Trader Joe's around, they carry a very high quality organic quinoa at very reasonable price.
3 lbs. in 2 weeks is a great weight loss, much healthier than losing more than that.
You are correct, the yolk is the part of the egg with fats, the whites are pretty much pure protein. The yolks would effect your cholesterol...grains (carbs) sugars, and even too much fruit could effect your triglycerides. Eat as low on the GI scale as you can. The best way for us food allergic chubbo's to lose safely is to watch the fats and carbs, even the good ones will effect our weighloss if eating in too large a quantity.
Good luck,
Burdle

Burdle,

do you know what whey is? does whey protien have gluten or wheat in it? is it a grain? I'm guessing it is not a grain if it is a protien.

If you know. thanks

whey is a dairy product. It is clearish liquid that separates out of dairy, like on the top of a container of yogurt, or putting yogurt in a strainer to make yogurt cheese, whey is the liquid that drains out.

Hi Burdle- you are so right that this way of eating unmasks food sensitivity! My question is this: I seem to get terrible gas from some foods- oatmeal being the main culprit but also something in Kraft Greek dressing, and sometimes brown rice, green peppers if not cooked enough. So I basically avoid those things. I didn't see that gas was one of the symptoms you listed, and that is my only reaction. Would you call that an allergy? Or could it be something else?

Hi, skinnypeep. Gas is usually a sign of digestive insufficiency, which means you are not digesting the food completely. My husband has that same problem, really bad. His doctor suggested Beano or GasX.

Thanks Burdle. I do have a stash of Beano just in case. But I've had cases where it's BEYOND Beano.  so I've found it better to just avoid oatmeal especially. Thank goodness for Recepielover's P1 thread!!!

I'll mention it to the Dr next time I go in case it's something I should deal with.

HI, new to this, and I have a problem.

I want to start the SB diet, but have a major problem with it. Im allergic to cheese and whey. To the extent that I go into anaphalactic shock if I get a strong wiff of the stuff. How do I get through Phase 1 without being relegated to the same meals every day for two weeks?

There is always soy milk (unsweetened) which is ok for SBD. Also cheeses made from soy. Once you are in P2, you can use rice milk, altho in limited quantities because I've never seen it without some type of added sugar, usually brown rice syrup, which has a lower GI than most other sugars, but is still a sugar. I eat a cheese made from rice milk which doesn't have any whey in it, but does have a small amount of caseine (milk protein) and is low fat, no cholesterol. I've also seen cheeses at Whole Foods made from almond milk, but that is not low fat. If you don't have a Whole Foods in your area, most small health food stores can order these special cheese and milk products for you. You can make your own nut milk by taking nuts and blending them in water until it is smoothe and the consistancy of milk. That will use up your nut allowance for the day, and you won't get much nut milk, because one ounce of nuts doesn't make much nut milk.
Look for vegan products, those should have not dairy in them. There is a vegan rice cheese made by the RellaGood company, a cheddar with no dairy, but I can no longer buy it in my area, and it is not low fat. If you can't find reduced fat cheese substitutes, use full fat but only eat small amounts.
You can do South Beach Diet without dairy, I've been doing it for almost 2 years.
Good luck,
Hugs,
Burdle

I recently had food allergy tests. The results were not too bad I am allergic to kidney & pinto beans, tomatoes, cheese, eggs, dairy, peanut, radishes, rye, wheat, yeast & zucchini. My Dr wants these foods out of my system for 90 days and then we can reintroduce some of the foods. I have substituted sunflower butter for peanut butter and it is actually pretty good. Dr also wants me to follow the SB Diet. I am finding this difficult. I have eliminated peanuts, radishes, rye, wheat, yeast. Eliminating eggs, cheese dairy products & tomato products is very difficult for me and stay on SB. Any good ideas or does this posting belong on another board?

Fluffyjo-
I cannot consume legumes, I do not eat casein, I am allergic to the cocoa family, onion family, buckwheat and rice families, and I am a celiac. In addition, I cannot eat anything with vinegars, spice, et cetera. If you need any help, let me know.

Fluffyjo, your post is in the correct place, an allergy thread. Doing without eggs, cheese, dairy and tomatoes is very difficult, but it can be done. You didn't say you are allergic to any other forms of animal protein, so you can substitute low fat meats for eggs, cheese and dairy. Might not make a satisfying dessert, but will keep you from being hungry. Just because SBD states you should have 2 cups of dairy a day doesn't mean you have to if you are allergic to it.
I've been dealing with extreme food and environmental allergies for more than 20 years, and in my vast experience, if you continue to eat foods you know you are allegic to, your body is in a constant state of allergic reaction. If you do not give up these foods, at least for 90 days, you might not 'get over' the allergic reactions to the foods you have eliminated. My allergist, a specialist's specialist, told me that the best diet for me is one where I'm not reacting. I pass this advice on to you. Eating foods that cause an allergic reaction can keep you from losing weight. I know that when I eat wheat, I gain 3 lbs....overnight...and when I stop eating it, in a few days, I lose 3 lbs. Allergic food reactions can cause water retention, among many other symptoms.
Aren't we a bunch of allergic Babes? LOL
