| I am chewing several pieces of trident sugar-free gum a day! I find that my breath is horrific!!!!!!! My husband swears that it is probably just the taste in my mouth, and not what people can "actually" smell! Either way, IT IS HORRIBLE! Anyone else having this trouble? |

Hi There GDM!
I noticed the same thing. I think I am a little hyper-sensitive about it though as I was used to eating a lot of mints in a day as a habit. (quit smoking years ago and ate lots of sugar free mints all the time). I have been doing that for roughly 8 years, so making this change is tough! I instead have started brushing my teeth more often during the day. It isn't always practical, but it seems to work for me.
I started on the 19th as well and so far am down 9 lbs. WHOOOO HOOOO!

 I leaned over to dh in church yesterday, and he made a face and scooted over.
I got some altoid breath strips, but he said they aren't helping. I have no idea what else to do except take my toothbrush with me and brush more often. :( |

| It could be due to the fact that we're eating new foods. I mean, for me... eating onions and Splenda/sf stuff makes my breath smell too. |

The bad breath is caused by burning proteins and is called ketosis. One great way to get rid of it and feel worlds better is to drink wheatgrass juice which is very heavy in chlorophyll.
1 oz. of wheatgrass juice has the vitamins and minerals of 2 1/2 pounds of veggies! You can get it at health food and smoothie shops. DON'T try it in any form other than fresh pressed.
In a week you will not believe the difference. DON'T take supplements with it as it gives you more than enough of almost every vitamin.
Some say it has cured their cancer, all I know is that it tastes terrible, but works wonders! I mix it with tomato juice and drink it quickly.
I could eat a field of garlic (my favorite spice) and noone but me would know.

| Well, on the SBD we don't go into Ketosis like the Atkins diet. And I have noticed the same thing!!! |

Thank Goodness! I am so glad to hear that I am not alone!
And thanks Navynewbee, glad to hear there is a logical explanation for it. As for the wheat grass, sounds kinda ucky but I am willing to try anything!
Pl80, congrats on the weightloss! I have my fingers crossed for this diet. I love some of the foods so much I don't think it will be hard to stick to it.
Magicpuddle! That cracked me up! What a good story~!
pookiebear, about the foods we are eating, what makes me nervous is perspiring and smelling like an onion. Sometimes I think things like this are retribution for all the jokes I have cracked about an odor someone else has, now I see what it gets ya! LOL
Thanks for the reply all! |

| After reading this yesterday because of having the same breath problem, I used one of my Ketostix that I used on Atkins (and never could register as being in ketosis) and it turned the darkest shade indicating the highest level of ketosis for me. Hmmm... |

I know that my mom went through the bad breath phase on the Atkins, but I was curious how long it usually lasts?? Hers was only noticeable for a few days, and I'm hoping that's the case for this too, unless once it stops smelling it means the diet isn't working for you anymore.......... |

If you're doing the diet correctly, you are not supposed to go into ketosis. If you're not getting enough carbs, then you can go into ketosis. Try eating more good carbs. Milk products are good choices. |

| Try eating parsley instead of breath mints. It natually neutralizes the odors in your tummy, which gives you better breath. |
