| I am reading a book about menopause by Dr. Lee who is a proponent of using progesterone cream rather than traditional hormone replacement therapy. One thing that struck a chord with me is his comment that all our sex hormones (estrogens, testosterone, progesterone, etc.) are made from cholesterol. Maybe the profound effect on our blood cholesterol levels from the SBD is the source of our mysterious menstrual woes. I spotted for about 2 weeks in the middle of my cycle the first month and I'm on BC pills. Now that I've been following the sbd for 2.5 months now, my periods have returned to normal. |

I'm on the pill. This makes 2 months in a row I've spotted. Always 2 weeks before my period. Looked it up and this is what I found:
Spotting that occurs in the middle of your cycle or spotting that occurs some ten to fourteen days prior to the start of the next cycle is normal too. This spotting may occur during ovulation. Seeing a spot of blood during ovulation is considered an excellent fertility sign. It is thought that mid-cycle spotting occurs for one of two reasons. First reason is possibly that when the egg bursts through the follicle, a little bleeding may occur. This blood will then make its way out and show up as “spotting”. Or, during ovulation, the level of estrogens rise, and this sometimes prompts the uterus to shed a bit of lining, which shows up in the form of “spotting.” |

Well I received my results from the uterus biopsy on Wed (surgery was friday). NEGATIVE cells.....I am going to print some of these email to take with to my post op appt in two weeks. Dr said abnormal bleeding is NOT caused by a diet! Seems I didnt have any periods for 4 years BEFORE starting this diet on Jan 3 and got one on Jan 21st. I am curious to see what he will say - I realize he is a GYN but want to show him these anyway. Has anyone heard any update from dr A?? Why doesnt he address this at least we would be notified of the possibility of bleeding early or not at all, spotting? I have posted emails to be given to him - no answer anywhere that I can see - does anyone have any updated info to contact him? I told my dr I am staying on this - my blood pressure has dropped also - I feel GREAT the best I have felt in years and I am eating healthier and exercising more - these are all pluses. Plus:

If you read any of my prev emails and postings mine started up after 4 years - dr had me have a D&C and now wants me to take megastrole (?) something like that - to make my body slough off any remaining cells he did not get out with the D^C. He has no way of knowing if he did get all the cells out I have complex hyperplasia which he said is a 50/ 50 chance of going to next level where I would need a hysterectomy. Im 57 so it certainly wont interfere with me getting PG! haha. So he says take for 4 months and I should have a bleeding cycle of more than a reg period length and then no more....to get remaining cells out of my uterus. If it lasts longer means the cells are more complex or thickening (?) and would still need a hysterectomy or at least my uterus removed. I dont know what it is if I dont bleed at all on these pills? Does that mean he got it all during the D^C? If so, I dont need aything further which is fine with me. But if I am going to bleed from these - wonder how long after I start taking them it starts? Does anyone know or familiar with this drug?

I'm really happy I found this thread. Today is my last day of Phase 1, and I noticed some spotting beginning on Thursday or Friday, which was a week early. I've been on the pill for 5 years and I haven't changed my brand in a long time. I'm thinking it has to be the diet. (Or an unexpected baby- oops!)
I'm glad to hear that others are experiencing similar types of changes. I know it's been said, but Dr. A really, really needs to address this at some point. In my case, I don't think it was weight loss that triggered the change, because I was already losing weight before I started SB, and I've only lost a grand total of 2 lbs during Phase 1.
Anyway, I am going to call my endocrinologist about this tomorrow, since she told me to do the diet in the first place. If she has any additional illuminating information, I'll let everyone know. |

I know the feeling - when I started SB in January - I hadnt had a period in 5 years! I started diet Jan 3, got a period Jan 11 - went to my OB - he told he could not be the diet - but I disagree - I cut ALL FATS and I think that is a big side effect. Anyway I had a D&C in Feb. No bleeding since he has me Progesterone only for 4 months - this is my fourth month then wants to do an ultrasound to make sure there is nothing in there yet. should not be. The progesterone was supposed to make anything that was left Bleeding I mean come out during this time - in case he did not get it all during the D&C so I agreed to take these for 4 months. I still say it is because of the low fat. I was never on a diet in my life and this worked SO WELL cutting all the fat was a big change for my body.
I also asked for dr a to address this - have you seen how many women have had this happen go to the medical thread - you will be surprised There has to be some connection -
They all say its stops in a couple of months - but why would it happen anyway. FAT must have someothing to do with it.
Well good luck and I have not lost any more since April - phase 2 is just not cutting it at all - need to go back on Phase 1 FULL TIME again to see if I can jump start my body....good luck. I lost 24 lbs in 3 months.

I am 23. But you're right- our tickers are almost the same! We even have the same goal weight and everything. That's pretty fun.
My weight seems to get stuck every 5 pounds or so, then it comes off a lot at once. I don't really know what that's about, but perhaps it will happen to you too. Losing weight is so frustrating! But I wish you good luck. |

Going back to phase 1 did not change anything either - I need to jump start this again. |

| Bobbielou, I'm confused about how you keep talking about cutting out fats-- that's not SB, so I'm not sure what diet you were on that had you do that. SB is much better than a low-fat diet, because we eat lean proteins that do have some fat, and we concentrate on increasing our fats by eating nuts, good oils like canola and olive oil, and other good fats like in olives and avocados. Those types of fats/oils should be eaten at pretty much every meal. |

| Bobbielou, I just started Phase 2 on Monday. I DID NOT lose 23 lbs during Phase 1, though! I first lost 20 lbs slowly over the past 7 months by following a generic sort of low-GI diet, but my endocrinologist wanted me to switch to South Beach, so I did. That's when the other 3 lbs came off. |
