The estrogen from your cells and soy can play a role in your changing "date", but also keep in mind that most meat producers (for cows, chickens, etc) give hormones to animals to fatten them up. This all stays in the meat that you eat, and is processed by your body as the natural hormones would be (the hormones given to animals are the same as what is found naturally in our bodies, just in much larger doses). The introduction of excess hormones via the meat is most likely causing the problems.
They believe that this is what is causing girls to have their periods at 8-9-10, especially among certain populations (they've found that people on public assistance often buy meat because certain kinds are available very cheaply and are part of food stamps' list, and a little can go along way; this is generally the population with the earliest starting age).
In theory, the hormones shouldn't hurt you, considering it is something we process naturally, but...if you find the spotting/change of dates annoying (or you're just concerned about what people are putting IN the meat you eventually buy!), buy your meat from someone who allows the animals to grow at their natural rates and doesn't give them hormone shots (unless things have changed, Whole Foods sells this type of meat) I feel better eating this type of meat (not that I always have access to it) when I do I don't feel so weighed down and grumpy...(and the un-grumpiness says alot!) |

I had spotting for the first time in my life after being on this diet for 3 wks (8-10lb loss in that time). Freaked me out. I'm like clockwork, so I thought I had a cyst or something. It has motivated me to set up a doctor appt, though, something I'd sort of neglected for awhile. :)
Anyway I'm glad I'm not the only one. |

i have been on the SB diet for around 3 months and haven't had my period since late june(skipped twice). i've taken 2 pregnancy tests, both negative, and my body feels more or less normal despite its absence. i know i am eating more than enough calories. has anyone else experienced this or know what i should do?
 |

Really
I read your post. I'm about a week late. I've taken two tests and both came back negative. I sort of 'feel' like I should be getting it (lower back ache etc).
I've lost 20 lbs this month due to starting. I hope that's the case.
If I don't get it soon, off the the gyno I go. |

I'm only on day 10 of P1, but am having the absolute opposite problem. I, too, am on the pill, and my period is now a week late (I've been regular all of my life).
Additionally, I haven't lost a single pound yet, and had read on posts that a stall is common before TOM, due to water retention...However, my fear is that I'll continue to grow even more frustrated & give up if I don't start losing SOMETHING...water or no water...SOON!
Sorry I can't add any words of wisdom, but all I can offer is that if your doctor gives you a clean bill of health & you continue to feel healthy & to lose weight, then perhaps intermittent spotting is a small price to pay until your cyle normalizes itself?! Just my 2 cents...Good luck! |

| Huh.... I never read this post before. Need to Lose, the same thing happened to me. Ive been on SBD for 6 months now (and just made it to 135 yesterday. Yay!) I'm 57 and had started my period after about two months on this diet. Like you, I hadn't had a period in 12 years! It's still happening...... saw my Dr., had the horrible Papshmear, and... nothing out of the usual. Maybe it's all those blueberries I eat. Shrugs. |

I started the SBD last November and noticed really heavy periods right after I started. I drifted off and everything was normal. Now that I'm back on the wagon, the first month was really, really heavy. Not fun.
Anyway, thanks for your reasons and discussion. |

My period is totally out of control!! 2 weeks ago I had my last period and today it started again... is it normal??
Since I started SBD I've been having irregular and very light periods, i mean before i started sbd i was pretty regular and my period lasted like about 5 days at least... but now I have 3 days periods on a 2 weeks cycle... is that change because of sbd or could it be something scarier?? |

I'm late too!!! Two weeks late and I've never been this late before (at least without being pregnant). I haven't taken a pregnancy test because I really don't think I am. I don't feel pregnant at all. In fact I feel wonderful and I'm loving this diet because the lbs and inches are coming of nicely. I would rather be late than early... but on time would be the best!
If anyone finds out anything from their Dr., please share! |

Huh, guess my last month had two reasons to be weird...
I'm on the pill, like many of you, but a week into the diet I was going out of town the day I started a new pack. Like an idiot, I thought I could just pick up my pills that day. A power outage on the block where my store is put a crimp in that... So, I finally get my pills FOUR DAYS LATE. EEEK!
Anyway, I had some highly irregular period activity as a result, and I just thought it was my highly irregular pill schedule, but maybe it wasn't just that... I'll see what happens this month, but smooth sailing so far. |

I finally started my period, almost 3 weeks late. I don't mind going 7 weeks before periods...as long as I knew it was going to be 7 weeks! This is crazy!!!

| OMG, I got my second one yesterday since being on SBD (the first was only 3 days or so into the diet so I doubt SB had done much to my system by then). I had THE WORST cramps I've ever had. It was AWFUL. I wanted to stay home, and I'm not that much of a wimp. Good to know I'm not the only one dealing with this! |

| 5th day on SBD, and yesterday I started the heaviest period I've ever had in my whole life! Diet seems to be working though, so I'll stick to it and see how I fair next month. 12 pounds to go.... |

Yes! This all sounds familiar... I've gone through 2 cyles since starting the Beach the end of August. My first cycle (late Sept.) was unusually heavy & messy (not to be gross but it was the first time in years that I'd bled through my pants) and had painful "can't sleep can't move can't stop groaning cramps." My second cyle (Oct.) was shorter than usual and really really heavy for a brief time (one day) but then things became normal except the short cycle. I am not on the pill and I try to eat meat and eggs that are hormone-free. The weird thing after my last period is that I seemed to lose some of my "stomach bulge" during that time.
Anyway, hopefully our bodies are just adjusting to this new WOE and are gradually going to stabilize (though I don't mind that monthly reduction of the stomach pouch). :) |
