I feel everyone's pain. I'm on Day 7 of SBD and am having a lot of success so far...but the diarrhea is almost too much to bear! I've had it ever since Day 1 and I'm wondering if and when it will go away. I thought it might be lactose intolerance or a intestinal parasite, but it sounds like its just the change from a crappy diet to a good one. Any ideas how long this might last or any remedies?

You know, I didn't realize it could be the diet! My doc put me on Glucophage for insulin resistance, and the side effects are mainly intestinal-gas, diarreah. I thought it was the cause. But I see now it was probably a combination of the diet and the pills. makes sense now.

I get the same problem if I eat foods that contain sugar substitutes (like Splenda).

I have had a small problem with this and stinky gas.. phew.. must be the eggs... but I am thinking I am getting MORE fiber than ever with all these veggies. The past three days I have likely eaten more veggies than I did last YEAR!

I agree with the post where the Doc prescribed fiber. I too had a gastro doctor recommend the same thing for this problem and thought he was off his nut, but it works! Since I hate the way the powders taste, I take 1/2 a fiber pill. And if the problem is really bad, take another half in about 12 hours. Just remember to drink plenty of water. I actually think that on this diet, it is better to take the fiber pill right before a meal. Good luck!

The two times I started this diet I had the running to the bathroom syndrome too. The first time in May 04 I finally realized it was from the splenda. I was looking at the label and it said "May cause a laxative effect." Oh I see! What really did it to me was the those gummy bears! Never again! This time I had diarrhea starting the 2nd or 3rd day of phase 1 for about 3 days. Since then I have been fine. :)

I've had a bit of constipation, no diarrhea so far. For all those having diarrhea, first, make sure you are drinking a lot of water/fluids. You can get really dehydrated fast with diarrhea. For anyone who has had it for more than three days I recommend talking to your doctor. It's not good to have diarrhea for very long, can be unhealthy, even dangerous if it really persists. I'm not doctor or anything, but I would be careful. Hope you all get better.

Im so glad I came across this old thread, I'm on day 7 of Phase 1 and I'm definitely having this problem. I was about to jump ship in a big way until I came across this. I guess I'll stick it out. I'm down 4 lbs in 5 days and I really want to keep with it. 8 more lbs to go!!!!

Avoid eating these artificial sugars -sorbitol,malitol, aspartame known to give people cramps and diarrhea. I have had no trouble from Splenda yet.
Also read the following on aspartame:

www.dorway.com/betty/jointpan.txt

BTW check out what mercola says about SBD. They won't allow me to post the link but Mercola is smart and honest.
EDIT: Pookiebear here (a moderator of the forum) Go ahead and read mercola. But know that it is one sided and that Doc is trying to sell HIS STUFF. Never take advice from a site that's trying to sell you something. Never. I agree with one or two of his points... but mostly? It's strung with "twist"... read it... you'll see what I'm talking about. It's good to know what you believe and if you're on SBD - why you believe in it and that it will work for your goals. Good luck to you. |
