Since starting SBD, I have found that I have an increased amount of energy. Maybe too much! Before SB, I would come home from work and plop in front of the tv, absolutely exhausted, and stay there all night until I fell into bed around 9:30. Now I have so much energy that I come home from work and do housework or work outside or go for walks. Anything but sit around. This all sounds good, but my problem is, that I have so much extra energy to burn and I feel so jazzed that I can't get to bed at a normal hour anymore. Some nights I have been up until after midnight. I still have to get up 6:30 so I feel I'm depriving myself of sleep. I love being energetic again, but I kind of wish I could tone it down a little. Anyone else having this problem?

sarahsue, i've been feeling this way too. i just started sb last week - i can't control my bouncing knee at work! and i used to be wicked tired when coming home at night but now it seems like i can't not keep moving around. having a little trouble sleeping, yeah.
i thought maybe it was due to eating too much, but i don't think so b/c i'm usually a little hungry after meals - after a certain amount i just can't keep eating. psychological? anyway, but maybe if i ate more vegetables and less meat...? guess it's all about finding out what works for you.

I found that if I ate close to 5 pm and drank a cup of Sleepytime tea before bed, then it was a heck of a lot easier to sleep.
There are still times, however, when my body seems to be in overdrive and they certainly are not comfortable moments. |

| i mountain biked roughroad 3 hours this morning at 8am, (big uphill climbs) and went rappelling in the afternoon.. now its past midnight and im not even sleepy... (although my butt and legs hurt).. the weird thing is im supposed to be dead tired! i havent biked in almost a year and the last time i worked out was uhmmm 3 months ago! not that im really complaining, but it ISSSS strange. In the atkins diet book i read before, said that if u eat a lot of protein and no carbs u actually get more energy or something like that... |

| Have you tried exercising just before you go to bed? Also, there are some great stretching videos designed to get your body relaxed for sleep (AM/PM stretch is one, I think) What about eating a late-night snack of turkey (contains tryptophan)? On the up-side, if you don't FEEL overtired in the mornings/during the day, chances are your body is doing okay...if you continue to be concerned, perhaps a chat w/ your doctor might help. :) |

Are you eating foods with lots of artificial sweeteners? That can jazz up some people...

I've been searching this forum for exactly this problem!
I cannot fall asleep at night! On the night of Day 2, I was wide awake at 12:30. I drank some sleepytime tea, but it didn't seem to affect me. I finally took a sleeping pill. However, I woke up at 3 am due to the rain pouring against my window and a full bladder...and it took me another half hour to get back to sleep. I woke in the morning exhausted, but I made myself stay awake until 10:30 pm on Day 3. Even though I was sleep deprived, I still couldn't get to bed (no sleeping pill this time). I awoke again at 4 am to a full bladder (not normal for me). I am well hydrated, and avoid liquids beside my tea within 2 or 3 hours of bedtime, so this must be diet related.
I can't keep this sleep habit up, so please, tell me it will pass..... |

If you're really wired, don't go to bed and try to fall asleep, it just is not going to work in your favor and you'll end up frustrated.
Even prior to SB, DH and I have been doing this routine and it works beautifully. You'll note there are 2 options (depending on just which way you feel like going here...) 8)
Option 1 ~ you just want to fall asleep, thank you very much...:
1 ~ We light incense with a relaxing scent... patchouli, sandlewood, musk...
2 ~ We turn off all lights except for a string of christmas lights on the wicker etagere...
3 ~ We turn on some wonderful, soft, ethereal, new age-type music... (no lyrics allowed)... when CD is done, it turns itself off...
4 ~ I take my position curled up under his arm... we sometimes talk... we sometimes just breathe...
5 ~ We fall asleep...
Option 2 ~ you want to fall asleep, but geez baby, you're looking gooooooooood tonight...:
1 ~ We light incense with a relaxing scent... musk... definitely musk...
2 ~ We turn off all lights except for a string of christmas lights on the wicker etagere...
3 ~ We turn on some wonderful, soft, ethereal, new age-type music... (no lyrics allowed)... when CD is done, it turns itself off... (unless you hit replay)
4 ~ We light 30 million candles covering every flat surface in the boudoir (now, I'm really glad I'm not flat... )
5 ~ I take my position curled up under his arm... we sometimes talk (no, I'm not going to tell you what we say)... we sometimes just breathe... heavily...
6 ~ We make mad, passionate love... or okay, sometimes soft and lingering depending on the amount of energy we have...
7 ~ We answer the call from the Fire Dept and tell them that, no, there's no fire, we've got the candle situation under control...
8 ~ We tell the dog and cat to calm down... and clean up the room, and each other depending on the amount of energy we had...
9 ~ We fall asleep...
These options come with a money back guarantee... but first you have to send me your money... bwaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaa... 8) |
