| I have had very bad acid reflux. Last year for a couple months, I threw up several times a week (generally in the morning). My doctor put me on pepcid, but in Dec. my symptoms recurred in a far worse fashion. My doctor put me on Nexium. I have been better since then. But I am hoping that I can go off the medication. I guess that can be a long term goal. |

| The prospects are good! I've found that my body will tell me what is too processed for me by giving me acid reflux. For instance, I can't eat couscous. I also couldn't eat yogurt alone, but if I add high-fiber cereal to it, it's fine. |

| I, too, had terrible reflux- would wake up choking and had to be very careful not to eat certain foods in the evening- anything tomato; but on SBD it has gone away. If I cheat, however, even a little bit- especially with baked goods (white flour), I get heartburn almost immediately. |

| My acid reflux has gone away as well. I was very happy a week or so into SBD when I realized I was not waking up in the middle of the night with the terrible burning and coughing. |

| Me too! Me too! I've been on meds for acid reflux or GERD for many, many years. The first thing I noticed on SB, even before I found I'd lost any weight, was that the reflux and heart burn all just disappeared, immediately. I quit the Prilosec and that was 6 weeks ago. I get a little warning (a fullness or bloated feeling) if something I eat isn't agreeing with me, but nothing that warrants medication anymore. Can't wait to tell my docs about the meds I'm eliminating or cutting down on (I've also lowered the dosage with my BP meds). This is so cool, AND I'm saving money on Rxs, too! :D |

| After I started following the guidelines of the SBD for a few weeks, my husband remarked, "I was so used to having indigestion every night, especially if I ate past 7 pm, so I thought that would always be just the way it was. However, I've noticed that I no longer get indigestion at night since we started eating this way... I guess we can now toss out that great big bottle of Tums antacid. :D :D |

| I have been on phase 1 for 2 weeks (and decided to extend it a bit longer because it's going so well). Just last night I told my wife that I had stopped getting heartburn/acid reflux since on the diet. It's a very nice unexpected side effect. Another nice side effect is that I can smell and taste food more keenly. I have some allergies and for a long time I couldn't smell food very well. I find myself loving the smell of fresh vegetables. |

I used to eat Rennies heartburn tablets like sweeties and always had them by the side of my bed for night attacks. I used to get quite het up if I couldn't find them in the dark. My reflux problems stopped almost immediately after starting sbd along with terrible gas problems. I also find that everything taste better and I don't need to smother my food with ketchup and HP sauce etc. any more. The other positive side effect is that the stiffness went from my knees and fingers. However, since adding ww bread in P2 , it is back again to some extent.
It just goes to show that I was probably poisoning myself with too much sugary food. I've lost 24lbs in 10 weeks and I'm feeling better, looking better and have much more energy. |

As soon as I dropped a lot of weight, it really helped my reflux. As a nurse, I'll tell you some helpful tips until you reach your goal...hope these help:
Don't eat large meals (small frequent are easier on your system)
Don't go to bed/lay down within 2 hours of finishing a meal
Foods that may make it worse: Tomatoes, onion, chocolate, spices, fatty/greasy foods.
Do elevate your head while sleeping
Do take your Aciphex or other type of antireflux 1/2 hr before meal. |
