Hello
I'm about to start SBD tomorrow. I went shopping today for all the foods on Phase I . Just finished making the Veggie quiche cups to go (very small hope I can do it.) Also made the cilantro mayonaise it's quite good. I used this smart beat Fat Free nonfat mayonaise dressing .
I have been kinda sorta on it in that I have not had any bread, rice, potatoes or pasta and have lost 16 lbs already since Thnksgiving. However I eat lots of fruit and cereal. My meats were the smallest part of my meals and lots of soups. Now this will all change.
What I was wondering is why everyone is off caffeine. He says on page 26 "Some diets prohibit coffee or tea because cafeine does intensify cravings somewhat. But you've got enough changes to content with without having to give up your morning coffee, too."

I think Dr. A's point in the book is that this is a lifestyle change, not a quick fix diet to last a few weeks. When starting the SBD, you are making some major changes; if having a caffeine kick makes you feel better, keep it. But caffeine itself is a drug, and I think some people may decide, like I did, that as long as I was making major changes to my life I might as well cut out my dependence on a drug as well as avoiding cravings. I dunno, anybody else have thoughts?

Wow...i need my coffee. I drink one cup of caffenated coffee in the morning, and in the afternoon I have one that is decaffenated. I use splenda to sweeten it and a low-fat creamer. I am still losing weight, so it is not hurting me. Good Luck.

i would be miserable without the coffee. |

Hi LinnieX,
Where did you find low-carb, splenda hazelnut creamer? I'm in Massachusetts...maybe it's not distributed here.

I drink a lot of coffee (one whole pot a day usually). Before I start SBD I made it 2/5 caffinated/decaf. Since starting, I changed it to 1/5 caff and as soon as all the caff coffee is gone, I'll make it all decaf. I like something hot to sip on and don't care for tea very much. Sometimes I even sip on hot water. Just a preference in beverage temperature. I'm a bit worried about the carcinogen factor in decaf coffee, but obviously haven't gotten paranoid enough yet. Does anyone else drink coffee all the time like me? Do you still lose weight? Am I weird???

Yup I feel pretty awake :) I usually drink two or three Tim Hortons coffees (any Canadians out there  ) everyday. I don't know if it affects my weight loss since I never stop drinking it. At least I take it black no sugar. Umm the stronger the better
