I am currently on the Adkins diet and have been for the past 5 months. Althogh I have lost 20 lbs. I would like to lose 15 more. It has taken me the entire 5 months to lose this 20 lbs. (8lbs the first two weeks and approx. 1 lb/wk thereafter). Anyway, I am thinking about switching over to the SBD to see if I can get the additional 15 lbs off any faster. Has anyone had sucess switching from Adkins to the SBD and still had the results that it talks about in the beginning?
Thanks. |

Personally, iwouldnt switch to the sbd for a quick fix. Even though it is healthier than the atkins diet, it is the same idea....you lose alot of weight fast, and then it comes off 1-2 lbs a week after that. If you have already lost a significant amount of weight, and gone thru the low carb and sugar thing, you may continue at your rate of 1-2 a week, which is healthy.

IMHO - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If you want to switch to SB make sure you get the book from your local library and read up. If you've been following Atkins for 5 months, you're not going to have the dramtic initial weight loss in the first two weeks. You've already lost that on the Atkins incusction phase and it won't be duplicated.
If you do move to SB, you'd probably start on Phase 2, and your weight loss would likely stay around 1 lb/week. You'd just be eating some different foods than you did before. |

Good question here....I would like to switch to SBD after i have completed about 2 or 3 months doing atkins. Personally I feel atkins helps me lose weight faster, but I also feel I cannot continue forever with its menu.
SBD allows for the for I enjoy eating as opposed to atkins. Anyhow my question is if this is possible to switch after a few months...not necc to lose additional weight but to maintain my weight. I'm not very overweight and once i lose 15 pounds I will be looking to just avoid gaining again. |

| my hubby and I went on atkins the beginning of semptember this year. We have now switched to phase 2 of south beach he has lost over 43 pounds and I have lost 21. We have found that there is more of a variety of foods to eat on south beach than on atkins and we don't get bored with the diet eating the same old same old. My hubby's moods are better along with mine and he likes south beach a lot better because of the variety of foods that are added in the phase 2 program. So wish us luck everyone we are just newbies at this and he still has about 280 pounds more to lose and I have about 154 to lose. |

This is a interesting thread for me. I did SBD for about 6 weeks and found that I was losing slowly, but my I was constantly sort of hungry and planning my next snack/meal. My girlfriend who was on Atkins told me that I should move over because ketosis is the best - you don't get hunger and cravings. I moved over and was actually successful for a while. Then I got pregnant, miscarried and ever since the miss, about 6 weeks ago, I have been unable to get 4-5 days of induction under my belt. I always cave in to those sugar cravings on day 2 or 3. So, I thought that I might come back to SBD to see if I can become sugar free while eating more than Atkins' 20 carbs a day (the cold turkey has become so hard for me). Today is day 1 on SBD and I hope I can stick to it.
I would not move from Atkins to SBD to lose faster. I still believe that Atkins is faster and is also 100% healthy. It is no less healthy than SBD and in order to understand about it you have to read the book. I very much believe that the Low carb lifestyle is right for me. Someone here mentioned that the lack of variety on Atkins is a problem. I can definitely see that. I enjoy being able to eat legumes again! And more veggies. My only concern is that I will be fighting hunger and cravings again.
I guess I'll see how it goes.
good luck to everyone! :) |

| I've done both diets and my opinion is that for long term weight loss, SBD would be better and healthier because you wouldn't be eating all the fatty stuff that Atkins says is ok. Atkins is all about low carbs and lots of fat. SBD is about GOOD carbs and GOOD fats. |

| Atkins is scientifically proven to be 100% healthy. If you don't know about it you can read the book. Dr. Atkins doesn't say to "eat all the fatty stuff". Dr. Atkins recommends olive oil and other healthy oils. I did Atkins and all my numbers went down (cholesterol, triglycerides). |

MORE HUNGER! Now in day 2. I don't remember being this hungry on Atkins. Is it the number of carbs? I ate nuts and more veggies with dinner.
Any similar experiences?? |

Let's face it - more carbs, more hunger.
I am personally not managing to stick to Atkins or SBD these days. I get terrible sugar cravings at the end of the day. If I could only get through the first 3 days and get to ketosis...... |

| I would agree that Atkins is healthy, but if you can't stay on it---then it's not. THEN you end up mixing high fat with high sugar and walla--you have a serious problem! |

Atkins is NOT healthy!
Stay away from that cardiac arrest diet!
Its focuses on eating large quanities of saturated fats, and shuns fruits and vegetables. Additionally, the complete lack of carbs means anytime someone on Atkins DOES eat carbs they will gain weight quickly, as opposed to having a good dose of healthy carbs in your diet.
For your own health, stay away from Atkins. |

| wow, isnt it crazy how controversal the weight loss topic has become?? i know people who have lost a huge amount of weight on both SB and atkins. i chose SB because of the variety and it just seems to make more sense to me. im also only on day 3 and feeling awsome, so thats probably why i like it so far. but in my opinion, if you are obese and your health is at risk, the program doesnt matter. if it works and you like it enough to follow the plan, thats whats important! WW, SBD, BFL, atkins, etc...there are sooooo many! i say pick it and stick to it! good luck!! |
