I did LA Weight loss and I lost very little - I was trying to lose 20 lbs. I lost like 10 and then stopped and for 4-6 months and basically yo-you's between 1-2 lbs yet when i expressed my frustration they did NOTHING to help me - they told me to buy the supplements which are outrageous! i unfortunately gained back about 7 of what I had lost so I am trying the south beach. I am in my first week of ph 1 so far so good but i have not weighed myself! i just saw some pics of myself from vacation and could not beleive how flabby I look - i am about 20 lbs over what I would like to be but i am flabby. Any one have any ideas for toning up? i like to walk and we have a bowflex - just have not used it - I need to get on it! thanks!

Jo Jo,

Pilates seems to be working for me. I still have a long way to go but I can seem an improvement and I realize it will take some time.

I also did LA and I lost 45 pounds. I had great success and don't hold them at fault for anything! The particular location was great--supportive, and non-pushy. Yes, it is costly, but I would gladly pay it again to be where I am now. The reason that I stopped going and turned to SB was due to allowing me to eat more foods than I like. I n regards to diets to each his/her own.

Now I'm really glad I went with South Beach. I was considering LA Weight Loss since their commercials run non-stop. According to what you guys have said, I couldn't dream of affording those prices. My college student budget is already somewhat struggling with SBD!

this isn't about LAWL but weight watchers and i wanted to agree with shopaholic - i did WW and was very successful (lost 60 pounds and have only gained back 17) - but you're exactly right about trying to manipulate your points so you can binge at night. also, too - as greatful as i am to ww and being a lifetime member and all, the one thing i can't stand is how OBSESSED you become with food and counting points. i think, in regards to LAWL, WW (which i would still endorse to people)...and other programs where you go and weigh in with someone / and or a meeting - the great thing about SBD is to me, it's MUCH cheaper. even now, after being a lifetime member, because i'm more than 2 pounds over my goal, to go back to a meeting i have to pay the $12.95 per meeting week to go (whereas if you're at goal and a lt'r it's free).
with SBD i don't feel as PRESSURED by SOMEONE ELSE to keep it off.

Sorry this is not exactly about LAWL, but I found what dkf2005 wrote to ring SO true!! I looked at a lot of programs before I started SBD, and I chose it because of it's similarities to "the zone" which i'd done with success about 5 years ago.

I'd tell myself "if only I had the money i'd" *insert name of diet here* "do that".

hehe.. But right now i'd rather save the money by doing it myself on SBD, and buy new clothes when I reach my goal!

I did LA Weight Loss, had some success. Let me just say this. Forget money, the program, the acountilbilty--What SBD has done for me in 5 days that LA could not do in 5 months-- is take away my cravings. I AM NOT HUNGRY and I don't even feel like doing any emotional eating either.
(that's the best part!!!) I would pay alot of money to feel this way. I am loving this program!

I am in LAWL right now. I paid 400 bucks to join. They originally told me over $500. I told them to get it down to 400 and I might join, which I eventually did. As someone else said, it is the accountability that helps me. I go in 3 times a week to weigh in and show my menu to the councelor. The gals at my LAWL center a very nice and oh and ah over every single pound I lose. They push their vities and bars, etc, but I just plain tell them I cannot afford to buy anything and they are very nice about it. I went on eBay and got the programs (all of them) and bought the bars and other things. That did save me a wad of money. The Chocolate Biscotti cookies are to die for. I also like the Honey Nougat bars. I don't think any of the girls are RN or RD's. Years ago I joined a similar program called Weight Loss Clinic. This seems to be just like it. The LAWL calorie amount is 1200-1400 calories, depending on the color you are on. Years ago the Weight Loss Clinic was 600 calories. I have been eating too many bars and biscotties on the program so I am not doing too well. I am following SB and am really just paying all that money to weigh in. My husband can't understand why I have to go to get weighed 3 times a week. He says there are two good scales in the house, why do I have to have them weigh me. Typical man!
Good luck if you do try it. It is very structured and like any other diet, if you follow it well and expend more calories than you take in, you will lose.

My stylist is on it and is down 13 pounds since the start of January! She seems to love it, but from the way she describes it, it's definitely a diet, not a lifestyle change. Nobody could stay that strict forever.

I've never tried LA Weight Loss but my problem with it is the way they advertise. "I can't believe my husband married me when I looked like a total pig...." or something to that extent. How ridiculous!! I'm sure there have been a lot of success stories from people who have done this program, but their commercials have put me off. Just my 2 cents.

I'm glad I never called them back about a job. They were emailing me and calling me a few times a week about working there, but I did some research and this is the same stuff I read about. They push push push their supplements when you can get the same stuff at Wal-Mart, and its expensive. I am by NO means a pushy sales person, so I'm glad I passed. They wouldn't have liked me, because I'm too honest and tell people when they can find a better deal somewhere else.

I do LAWL and I try to adhere to SBD principals (because I also believe the SBD WOE is sound and healthy).

FWIW: I've been going to the LAWL here in my city now for 5 months and they've never once tried to push the supplements on me. They're certainly available if I want them but if I wanted to buy them from WalMart or wherever, they wouldn't (and couldn't) say anything bad about that. The only "requirement" is buying bars and I bought them in bulk up front.

Also -- I've done WW in the past and it didn't work for me, personally. The meetings where just not helpful at all and I didn't like the whole eating on point thing -- the fact that I could eat whatever as long as I stayed in the points.

I don't personally find LAWL any more "strict" than SBD. With both diets, I have to learn how to eat the right size portions and learn the difference between head hunger and real tummy hunger. I find the discipline aspect of it helps me.

BTW, LAWL is costing me about $8 a week, which is the same as I would pay for WW. The difference is that you pay for it all up front so it is a very large cost outlay at the beginning.

I just recently gave up on that. I paid $300 for nothing. the diet is strict and you need their supplements and bars and snacks and stuff, to get the results they brag. huh.

LAWL works, but it was nothing that I could stick with for life. I lost 40+ lbs., and have gained back all plus. The fees are expensive and the bars are very expensive. It was after I lost some weight that I thought - am I going to have to come here and buy bars for the rest of my life??? There are three other people I know that did LA - lost weight - and then gained it back when they stopped going full time to the centers. And we had very pushly people. One woman asked my friend, when she was deciding to join - "So you don't want to join now? You like being fat?".

I couldn't survive on the food either, way too little, I was always hungry.

SB has taught me the right ways to handle food, so that I can eat anywhere in any situation. It has been FAR slower, but so much more worth it as now I have a plan for life.

I can't believe it's still here. I did end up joining LA weight loss. I lost 20 pounds in a couple months, and ended up about $1000 lighter between the program fees and bars. Luckily I couldn't do the supplements because I have high blood pressure, so they left me alone about that.
I got tired of going (not a very pleasant environment at my center, and 30 min. one way), tired of eating the bars and being so strict, and if I cheated, I would just not go weigh. I have almost all my bars that I never got because I stopped going, and it's been almost a year. Wish I could get that money back at least. In all my visits, I only met one person who had lost the weight and was on maintenance. Of course I gained it all back and then some. UGH. depressing.
