Hi,
I have several questions so bear with me please. I emailed Amanda for a food list. Thanks Amanda!
I have questions about some foods. Because I was on Atkins I know alot of what they have a low carb is NOT low fat. So, is it ok to use atkins pasta or whole wheat or both in phase 2. Also are avacados, macadamia nuts and such permited. What about sugar free candy, specifically chocolate. Low carb chocolate bars. Again no sugar no carbs or low carbs but fat content is up so I am unsure. Atkins icecream? sugar free pudding is ok. do you use fat free milk. On atkins you had to use heavy whipping cream. I think this plan is going to work for me. I am very excited but the plan is unclear in many areas. I lost 42 pounds on atkins but started loosing my hair. Time for a change!!!

Thanks for all comments,

Hi-avacados are allowed, but I don't think the macadamia nuts are-my list says peanuts and pecans--if it's not on the list I don't eat it!
I do want to let you know that I had the same problem w/hair loss.
There are a couple of good products out there tho--One is Shin Min for hair
and it has to be for hair-it is a little expensive tho-about $30. for a months supply;Futurebiotics also makes a hair, skin and nails supplement--$15.
for six weeks--a lot cheaper and just as good in my opinion-I started seeing real results in a month.I guess it just depends on how severe your hair loss is-I had a friend on chemo who used the Shin Min and saw results sooner than I did.You can pick these up at any vitamin store.good luck!

According to The Good Fats Good Carbs Guide, 1 oz. of raw macadamia nuts are listed as Good. The guide is a very good investment, as it lists many, many foods that aren't listed in the SB book.

SB is not about counting carbs, but about eating good carbs, ie. more nutritious. The more natural the food the better. So, whole wheat pasta is better for you than low carb pasta.

As far as the Atkins or low-carb products go, most of them are not SB approved because of the high fat or the lack of "naturalness". Atkins or low carb ice cream and the low-carb candies are usually high in fat. Some people eat a little occasionally, but it needs to count toward your 75 calories/day of treats (and just a little of either adds up to 75 or more fast). Personally, I love the Blue Bunny No Sugar Added Fudgesicles - only 70 calories for TWO, and one usually does the trick.

Buy the book. Check it out of the library, find it the used book store, eBay or Amazon. BUY THE BOOK. You really cannot do the diet without understanding the principles.
You really need the book, then you can ask questions as to what you need further developed and explained here.
SBD really is not a diet, but a way of eating and a way of life.....

I don't necessarily agree, while it is a way of eating/life, it is not a cult. Some people make it sound that way. The word diet means way of eating anyway. Real life gets in the way, like no money, and a huge waiting list at the library. You can get starter info online for sure.

You don't NEED the book but it is such a good asset. Perhaps I wouldn't have understood a lot of the info on here if I didn't have the background info from the book. It just seemed like second nature to me, but that could be because I have read a lot of info on the topic itself.

The FAQ page Kimboroni put together is very helpful as well
