| Carbs and sugar. Avoid them. You can probably make hot chocolate with baking chocolate or cocoa powder, Splenda and skim milk. I'll try that tonight and see how it turns out. My family consumes a LOT of hot chocolate during the winter months...it would be nice to join them. But, the standard "off the shelf" powder is totally out of the question. |

Hot Chocolate I would have to say is a no no.........but if you really need it try the sugar free.
As far as the dressings......I think Ceaser and Vinegar and Oil brands are the best. Certain ones only have 1-2 carbs per tablespoon. |

I made hot chocolate last night. I used 1 tsp of coacoa powder (perfectly fine for the diet), two heaping tsp Splenda (also fine) and mixed in about 2 tbsp of skim milk. Once the powder is dissolved, fill the mug the rest of the way with milk and microwave until hot.
Skip the marshmellows, but enjoy a spoon of fat-free Cool Whip on top.
Stay warm! |

| Watch out for the carbs in the skim milk. I believe it is about 30 carbs per cup |

Actually, I believe skim milk has 10-12 carbs for 8 ounces. The Daily Dish I rec'd today says that the SB diet now allows skim milk in phase 1:
Milk:
Old Version:
Avoid all dairy in Phase 1, except for less than 2 tablespoons fat-free ½ and ½, nonfat milk, 1 percent milk, or soy milk allowed with coffee.
New Version:
Phase 1:
Now includes low-fat milk (fat-free and 1 percent), soy milk, and yogurt (low-fat or fat-free plain or vanilla light/lite only) on the Phase 1 "foods to enjoy" list.

| Try making your hot chocolate w/the new Adkins "milk" instead of skim milk to get the carbs down. I also found a good Mexican hot chocolate recipe on the carb-lite.au.com site using heavy cream and water. Not good for phase I, but ok for phase II. |

I'm on day 12, have lost 7 pounds. I have hot cocoa every night. I forgot what the brand I use is, maybe Nestles but it only has 25 calories, add water and has calcium and is FF and SF. I count is towards my 75 calorie sweet. This is my evening dessert, sometimes I also have SF jello with it.
It's VERY tasty. |

If you keep reducing the sugar in your homemade hot cocoa you will soon be drinking with just the milk and cocoa. I can not stand to drink hot cocoa with sugar in it anymore.
I take enough water in a small pan to cover the bottom, add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of regular cocoa powder, boil until mixed well. Add my milk and turn off the heat (I have an electric stove so the burner is still hot, use low flame on gas stove) and let the milk get hot. |

My daughter and I regularly make my homemade cocoa. I use a modified version from the side of the Hershey's box:
1 Tbls cocoa
2 Tbls non-dairy creamer (in place of milk)
3 pk Splenda (=2 Tbls sugar)
dash of salt
**optional - add 1/4 tsp vanilla
I make up about 10 batches of mix at a time in a tight-sealed container. Then shake good to mix. I have a special little scoop that I use to measure it out. (Make one serving and see how many tsps it makes.)
I've used dried milk before but it didn't stay mixed and clumped at the bottom before I could drink it all unless I constantly stirred it.
The creamer is lower in carbs than the milk. It's also less bulky for storing.
Hope this helps someone. |

| I was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly what nuts are allowed in phase one. It says Peanuts are allowed but do they have to be unsalted. |

| he says on page 127 that you can have chocolate powder, no sugar added.... basically the same as hot chocolate powder, no sugar added... but no more than 75 cals a day! (besides the only thing making it hot is the water... and i'd use water, not milk, cuz you're not supposed to indulge on dairy, and it still tastes good!) |
