Scarlette

Starting officially today. I have been on salads and healthier food, with diminishing ammounts of bread for the last 4 days to try and ween myself a bit before going cold turkey.

I am currently 215 lbs, which is the highest I have ever weighed. I have slowly gained weight every year since I was a kid. When I was 20 I weighed 130, 25 I weighed 175. These last 2 years it seems I am gaining rapidly. I decided I needed a change.

I didn't eat a lot, but I ate all wrong. I never ate breakfast. Lunch was usually fast food, and dinner was usually a bagel or a frozen meal at around 8pm. Sometimes I would have a sweet snack around 10pm.

That all changes today. In the past year I have quit biting my nails, and quit smoking. I am determined that if I could quit those bad habits, I can quit my bad eating habits.

I am going to miss bread horribly. I am a meat, potatos, and bread kind of girl, and I have always been a real plain, picky eater. I'm going to do my best though. So here's wishing myself luck.

Day1, Phase 1

2 cups coffee with sweet-n-low (ick) and lowfat french vanilla cream (very small amt)

9:30am - 1 Hard boiled egg

11:00am - 1 Hard boiled egg

1:00pm - 1/2 cup cottage cheese with salt

3:00pm - Salad with lowfat Ranch dressing

7:00 pm - 3 celery stalks with a bit of low fat cream cheese

9:30 pm - 2 Sirloin patties topped wth low fat motzarella cheese wrapped in lettuce. 1 cup green beans and a pickle. Sugar free kool-aid to drink.

I really need to work on eating earlier, It's not as bad as it seems though, I don't usually go to bed until 12:30.

Current weight = 215

Goal weight =150

Scarlette. I would suggest working on increasing your veggie intake. The general formula is 1/2 cup breakfast and 2 cups at other meals. You might also want to add some meat (unless you are a vegetarian) then you should add beans.
Have faith-- I was a meat and potato person and that is slowly changing and I really don't miss it.
Great Job starting the diet. Drink plenty of water--lots and lots of water. I feel like a commercial for a water company. 8)

Thank you for the advice. I am having a bit of a hard time with the vegetables part. The only phase 1 vegetables that I like are Celery, Cucumbers, green beans, and Lettuce. I had 1/4 of a large cucumber on my salad, and I plan to chomp on some celery for my next snack, as well as have green beans with my dinner. Do you think this will be enough? If not, will a vitamin supplement suffice? I appreciate any advice you have. :)

Looks like a good start on the veggies. I think a vitamin is always a good idea but the veggies are to fill you up and give you stomach something to do. I ate a lot of salads in P1. Try adding meats to the salads. Also try to make beds of lettuce to place your meat on and eat it with your meat. I just want to make sure you are eating a variety of foods so your body has plenty of nurtients to make it through the day. I am no expert just been through it.
The turkey wraps are good and you can put cukes in the center instead of peppers. Just keep thinking veggies

Scarlett welcome to the beach,
I too am limited to the vegetables I only like lettuce and green beans.
Every lunch I have a salad with different things in it and supper green beans. Kind of boring I know but I just cant make myself put other vegetables in my mouth. One day im going to try harder but right now just doing what I can.

Thanks Redrabbit, and Kelsey. I appreciate your advice, and your kind words. I think this site is just the thing I need to help me stay on my diet. My husband is supportive, but he says I look beautiful and don't need to lose weight. He also weights 160 and eats starch carbs and junk food all day without gaining a pound. If I didn't love him I would hate him. :-)

Day 2 of Phase 1

Been going well so far. I haven't weighed myself yet, I think I am going to wait until next week. I don't want to start obsessing over the numbers on the scale.

3 cups of coffee with sweet n low
lots of water
sugar free kool-aid

8:00 am - 1/3 cup cottage cheese

9:00 am - 2 hard boiled eggs

11:00 am - 2 celery stalks with peanut butter

1:00 pm - Grilled Chicken Salad with low fat ranch dressing

3:30 pm - 1 Celery stalk with peanut butter

5:30 pm - 1 piece of string cheese

7:30 pm - Steak and green beans

8:30 pm - 1 cup Sugar free jello

9:30 pm - 1 cup Sugar free jello

ACKK!!! Im still hungry :( Is it possible the jello made me feel more hungry?

10:20 pm - cucumbers with low fat ranch dressing

Still hungry so I had another egg. I'm worried I'm eating too many eggs though. Isn''t it bad to eat lots of eggs?

Keep up the good work

Scarlette give yourself another day and I think you will find that you are not hungry. Try some water in the evening that might help alittle. I fine that some foods do make me hungry later so I stay away from those foods. It is a good idea to note what food you ate and how it made you feel. If you try it next week and have the same results then stay away from that food.

Woooohoooo! Ok, I couldn't resist weighing myself this morning. I Lost 3 1/2 lbs!!! I'm glad I weighed myself though, now I feel more encouraged to stick to this than ever. Do you think the happy dance I just did counts as excercise? :-)

Day 3 Phase 1

8:00am - 1 cup sugar free jello

9:00 am - 1 hard boiled egg

10:30 am - 1 hard boiled egg

11:45 am - Mcdonalds Grilled chicken salad.

I kind of cheated here, I picked off the carrots, and most of the bacon, but they gave me regular ranch dressing instead of the low fat stuff, so I just used the tiniest bit, not even 1/4 of the packet. I am stressing about this :-( I won't be going back for mcdonalds salads. I like the Wendy's and Arby's salads better, and Arbys low-fat Ranch tastes very good.

2:30 pm - 3 Celery stalks with peanut butter

4:30 pm - Sugar free jello (strawberry banana, mmmmmm)

6:30 pm - Chicken breast strips seasoned and cooked in the frying pan with a lid, on low heat. Green beans with seasoned almonds.

9:00 pm - Jello!!!

Midnight - spoon of peanutbutter

Scarlette I wouldn't worry too much about the lunch salad -- You had some will power to pull off the carrots and bacon! I couldn't do it. :) And using the real ranch dressing is one small thing that should not set you back, and you did use less of it. I would not stress over it. I am pretty picky at this stage too. I like kelsey only really enjoy eating lettuce and green beans. So my salds and dinners are usually pretty boring. I am worried that due to my pickiness with veggies I am going to eat too many nuts and cheese. Hopefully this won't set me back. Congrats on your early weight loss! Keep it up!

Im sure you dont need to worry about your lunch. You would think in this day and age there would always be a choice of fat free salad dressing. Woo hoo 3 pounds. Thats so great.
Keep up the good work.

Scarlette-- Great job. Too bad about McDonald's but you are making the right decision. If you don't like the product vote with your pocketbook. If McDonald's see they are losing business they will improve. At least that is the theory.

Yay!! I lost another 2 lbs today. Losing the weight like this makes it hard to keep off the scale in the morning. I am just so excited to see what it's going to say in the morning. :-)

Day 4 Phase 1

8:00 am - 1/3 cup cottage cheese

8:45 am - 1 hard boiled egg

10:00 am - 1 hard boiled egg

12:00 pm - 1 celery stalk with peanut butter

1:30 pm - Wendy's spring salad with lowfat ranch dressing. I picked off the carrots even though I wanted to eat them really bad :-(

2:00 pm - 1 celery stalk with peanut butter (The salad just didnt fill me up)

...couldnt add to that post for some reason, so here is the rest of yesterdays meals.

4:30 pm - 1 celery stalk with peanut butter

7:00 pm - Omelett with 2 slices american cheese. 2 pieces Oscar mayer lean center cut low fat bacon.

9:50 pm - a small handfull of pistachios, a bunch of cucumber slices.

I don't know how "legal" that bacon is. It says 30% less fat than regular cooked bacon. The back says for two slices: calories - 50, Total fat - 4g, Saturated fat - 2g, Carbohydrates - 0. So I'm hoping it will be allright. I guess the scale will tell me tomorrow. I need to go to the grocery store tomorrow. I need some turkey bacon, low fat american cheese, and my jello supply is dwindling rapidly. I want to get some popsicle molds too so I can make popsicles out of sugar free kool-aid. All this hot weather is making me crave ice-cream, and there is a dairy freeze at the corner of my block. :-(
