Anyone else beginning on Saturday? Am I crazy not to begin on a Monday? I just feel I can't go another day at the weight I am at. Join me. I will let you know my progress. I am too afraid to step on a scale right now, but know my pants are tight. I will step on it when the loosen. I need a diet buddy. Anyone out there want to help?

There are a lot of us here. Dont be afraid of the scales. Just weigh for you, you dont have to share it with anyone. I had no idea what I had gotten up to but knew I couldnt weigh on the clinics scales because I was over 350. I was 389. But with SB Im now 335. And I still try not to think about how far I have to go. I am not just starting but if you need anything Im here and will help any way I can.

Well I'm not a brand new starter, but I'm still on Phase 1 and I'd love to buddy with you. I know what you mean about needing to start right away. I picked possibly the worst time for me to start (the day before my daughter's birthday, followed by memorial day and my own birthday), but I just couldn't wait another day.

I didn't weigh in right away either.

Whatever day works for you is best. :)

I started this past tuesday.

Wanted to start on Monday, but it didn't work out.

And actually it was lucky that Tuesday was june 1st, so the date of the month tells me what day I've been on the sbd so far. :)

I am going to begin today as well. I am somewhat hesitant because I feel like I need to purchase the book. But I do feel like I have some information to start slowly. At any rate, I will start today or tomorrow. Has everyone started without the book? If so, how did you know you were on target with the program? I have 5 kids so my weight has gradually went from 135 to 184. my first goal is to get back to me weight of prior to the birth of 3 year old my twins (150). Then I will establish a new goal once I make it to 150. I would like a buddy who is starting on the program.

I just started (Thursday) and am currently on day 3 of the program. I did purchase the book, for I wanted to see what the daily menus and recipes looked like. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I am still a beginner too, but I would love to help if I can.

I think you can do it without the book though. This forum is jam-packed with excellent advice and knowledgeable people. Good luck on your fresh new start. I think the first few days are the hardest and the rest are a breeze. :)

Kay,

I purchased the book (got it about 2 days after I started the diet), but a friend of mine just bought the Good Fats/Good Carbs Guide and not the main book. She's about one week into the program and is doing pretty well without it. You may have to do a bit more research on the south beach related web sites (if you need links let me know, I've got a few that are good), but you should do okay. If you have questions don't hesitate to ask! There's always someone on this board who has the answer.

Good Luck!

How did everyone do Saturday? I was at a graduation party and was able to stay on the plan. My biggest accomplishment was to say no to a beer. Today is Sunday and I have my daughter's softball party today. Pizza and subs. I have to make sure I eat before I go.
This has got to work or else I don't know what to do. I'm kind of scared.

You're doing great so far, May! Congrats on making it through yesterday despite the temptations. I think eating ahead of time is a good idea (nothing like hunger to sabotage me if there's nothing healthy to eat. Maybe there's a way you can order a salad, if this party is held at a restuarant? Good luck and let us know how you do!

May it sounds like you are doing great. I usually carry almonds in my purse for the times I just cant make it. But I very seldom need them now that I know what I need. This is the 3rd month for me and I just feel so much more in control than any time in my life. The book has a lot of information I wish doctors would read. I have been to doctors and dieticions (sp) so many and this one book has explained things in a way that makes so much sense. i also bought the good carb bad carb book but the southbeach book has been the most help to me and of course this forum.

Two days on the plan and I gained 1 1/2 pounds! I thought I was doing well. Has this happened to anyone else?

Mon Jun 07, 2004 1:05 pm

You gained 1.5lbs? Are you sure? Maybe you could provide a sample food day for us to see. Maybe your scale is just off or you are expecting your period.

I wouldn't let it get you down. Try not to weigh everyday, for weight can fluctuate on a day-to-day basis. Stick with it, trust me. I am just starting off to, and it's been hard for me to adjust to as well. I just keep chugging along and here I am on my 5th day already.

Hi May,

there could be lots of reasons you have gained that have nothing to do with actual weight gain.. if you've had a lot of salt, you can gain water weight, it could be your time of the month, or it could be that you're having natural daily fluctuations in weight. It's not unusual for my weight to fluctuate several pounds over the course of the day..

What Carrie said above makes sense... try not to weigh yourself every day (now if I could only take my own advice!). Weigh yourself at the same time of day when you do check. Several posters here have suggested weighing yourself first thing in the morning....

Try not to be too discouraged. Give it a week or more. There was one gal here who went 9 days or more before she lost pounds and then she lost something around 6lbs at one time. Everyone is different.

Good luck and reach out for support and reassurance when you need it. the folks here are great for that!
