Hello everyone out there in SBD land. I've been cruising the message boards for a few days now and decided that I had to join in all the fun.
First a little about myself:
I'm 28 years old and have been married for just over 3 years. I am currently working full time and attending school part time to get my masters degree. I work in a library and plan to use my masters towards futhering my library career. I'll be a children's librarian when this is all done (6 more months to go!).
My weight has gotten the better of me. I was never really skinny but I really didn't start gaining weight until college. It was the "freshman 15" and then some. Last summer I joined Curves and really enjoyed the predictibility of it. But, school, buying our first house, working, and life in general forced me to stop.
I noticed that my husband and I started eating whatever and whenever we wanted. We were going out to eat 2-3 times a week, often times more. He doesn't seem to be getting much bigger but I noticed that my clothes were starting not to fit and I'm already one step away from having to shop in the plus size stores. I'm in a wedding in just about a month and the 4 other bridesmaids look like a swift wind will knock them over. Then there's me who went I went for the fitting (the size 20 dress did look better on me than the skinny - size 4 - bridesmaid I was with) was told by the seamstress that if I lost just a few pounds the dress would fit perfectly!
I heard about the SBD on the radio not too long ago and decided to look into it. I bought the books and did the reading. It sounded wonderful! Though I really thought it would tough to 1. talk my husband into it, and 2. give up all those carbs -- especially sugar and chocolate! The hubby went for it right away.
So we started the diet together on 5/30. Today is day 5. I have no idea if I'm losing weight because the brand new digital scale I bought gives me completely different readings every time I step on it. Within 1 day it said I lost 5 pounds -- and that was right after eating my last non-SBD meal!
So anyway, I'll just use this forum to vent a little. Maybe someone has a great scale they can recommend or maybe an exercise place similar to Curves that will help me on my way.
Thanks so much!

Hi, Darlene! I've been reading your journal with interest and that was part of the reason I started my own journal. Thanks for the welcome!
Things are going great on the beach. This really is an easy diet to stick to. Here I am on day 6 and feeling really good. My hubby woke up with me this morning -- even though he didn't have work -- and made breakfast! He makes really great eggs so we each had 2 eggs with some peppers and onions and some canadian bacon.
Tonight is Harry Potter night!!! I've gotten lots of people into HP -- the hubby included, and his friend -- so the three of us are going tonight after a dinner of bunless hamburgers and veggies. Yum Yum!

Ok. So today we went food shopping and discovered the no sugar added fudgcicles. I was in heaven! I had been dying for some chocolate -- it was just the right thing.
I inadvertantly skipped lunch today and was starving by dinner time. It was the first time in the whole week that I've been on the diet that I really was hungry.
Tomorrow is an official weigh in. We'll see what happens!

welcome to the beach, it is a great place to feel good. Even if you dont lose weight that dress will fit better when P1 is over. So much nicer when you are both on SB.

Official weigh in today: Scale read 184!!! That's 5 lbs lost in 7 days! My husband, Brian, has lost 6 lbs this week. It really does feel great.
Tonight we're having pork loin with garlic and rosemary. It is one of my favorite recipes and I'm so glad that it's all SBD friendly.
I know this week will go by super fast -- we're home this week working on the house. Hopefully the weather in this area will reflect JUNE temperatures!

If you haven't seen it, Harry Potter 3, then don't read this!
Did you love Harry potter? I thought it was awesome! I actually didn't read this one beforehand like I did the other two. When I realized it was not Harry's dad on the other side of the river and I realized who it was I almost cried!! That was so incredible!
Great job on your weigh in! Keep up the great work! |

Yes I did see Harry Potter and I loved it. I have read all 5 books (some more than once). I know a lot of adults read these books but I always tell people it's part of my job. I get to read a lot of fun stuff being a future children's librarian. :D
I'm really looking forward to the 4th movie because that was my favorite book. It was a long one so I'm wondering how they are going to get all of the important parts into one movie.
Enough HP. Lunch is cooking -- turkey burgers -- and I have to make sure that the outside doesn't burn too much and that the inside is actually cooked through.

Kim,
I find your journal interesting because we are very similar. I too am 28 and have never considered myself thin. I have been married a little over 3 years and in that time I have slowly been putting on more weight. When I started SB I was at 190 and determined not to get any larger. I am now on day 7 of phase 2 and have lost 11 pounds. I feel great and this diet really works.
Congratulations on your 5 pounds! That is such a wonderful feeling.
Keep up the good work. I will keep checking in with you! |

Thank you, Wrennly!
Yeah, it seems like I find myself more and more being bothered by the way I look. I hate the fact that I can't buy the clothes that I like because I know they will be too small. I can't wait to walk to into ANY store and be able to buy ANYTHING I want because I KNOW they will have my size.
11 pounds is so great! Keep up the good work!

I know exactly what you mean about buying clothes. It is so frustrating! It actually makes me hate to shop! Every other woman who reads this will probably freak at that statement, but it is true. I dream of the day when I can wear sleeveless and have no problem finding something that really looks good on me. That is quite the task now.
We will both get there though! Keep up the good work!

Day 10 down. We've been having a pork tenderloin that I cooked three days ago for dinner. Tonight was the third night. It's a really good recipe but enough is enough.
Tomorrow we are going to Six Flags Great Adventure. We haven't been in a while and we both LOVE roller coasters. We took the week off to paint and do other stuff around the house but we needed to take a day off from that. Of course tomorrow is supposed to be 90 degrees, hot and humid. Why wouldn't we want to walk around a theme park?
I guess that's it for today. All the painting and moving around today sure better help in the weight loss department. I'd hate to see these sore muscles go to waste.

Well, Brian and I spent an entire day at Great Adventure. We had a lot of fun even though it was SUPER hot and humid. It was a little difficult trying to find something to eat but we ended up with hamburgers (no buns) and a salad with some regular ranch dressing. The ranch dressing, in comparison with the Italian, seemed to have some better stats (less sugar, less carbs) It was only one meal.
It seems that Six Flags needs to offer more of an alternative for people with different dietary needs. The only thing really SBD friendly was the salad but they offered no reduced fat dressing. Every single place we tried had the same menu -- hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken fingers (breaded and served with french fries), and chicken sandwiches (breaded). In a world of low carb everything, one would think that maybe they would offer something different.
On the way home, instead of eating more pork, we decided to stop at TGI Fridays. We ordered strictly from the Atkins menu. We did get the spinach/artichoke dip (the cheese was probably not the best for us). But, when it came to the meal itself, we both got chicken -- mine was garlic chicken with a mix of vegetables -- mostly zucchini and squash. Brian got the sizzling chicken without the cheese. Of course, the cheese it what made it sizzling so he essentially just got chicken served with broccoli. It was all very good and I didn't have to cook or do dishes. And that's all that matters.
Tomorrow is another day of painting and more painting. I am FINALLY getting my dish washer on Friday so I'm really looking forward to that. Eating home as much as we have in the past week and a half, I've really missed not having the dish washer.
Later,

Phase 1 - Day 14
Yes, tomorrow starts another phase in this diet! I feel good, Brian says he thinks it LOOKS like I've lost weight, and I can't wait to have FRUIT!
A few things...
This week has been totally hectic. We stayed home from work to do some home improvement projects. That's ALL we've been doing for a week. Well, except for Great Adventure. But we are just about done painting the three rooms we wanted, installed a new dishwasher, and managed to keep up the SBD along the way.
We found Heinz One Carb ketchup -- no sugar, seems to be SBD friendly and it tastes good. Brian was thrilled because he loves ketchup on eggs and with all the omlets we've been eating, he's in heaven.
I know I am a little weary of starting the carbs tomorrow. I'm looking forward to a breakfast of something besides eggs, though. I also can't wait for the strawberries but the bread is going to be tough. I actually found sugar free whole grain bread. I have no idea how it tastes but I'm willing to try.
Official weigh in tomorrow. We'll see what happens.
