Hi, I'm Lisa and I am 34. I live in Lancashire UK. I've been steadily putting on weight for the past 10 years at the rate of about a stone (14lbs) a year. I now find myself with the daunting task of having to lose half my body weight!
I've tried a few diets in the past, mainly weight watchers and slimming world and have had success, but boredom usually sets in and I always slip off the wagon after a while. Hopefully I'll find SB a little easier to stick with.

So anyway, yesterday I emptied my cupboards of all stodgy rice and pasta, and tried to eat as much out of my fruit bowl as I could! Then I went and stocked up on meat, veggies, salads and beans. So I am well prepared at least!

I think writing down everything I eat each day will be helpful, so thats what I am going to do here. Hopefully if anyone spots any glaring mistakes in the diet they will point it out to me. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to my body. I ignore my moods and just carry on regardless so I'm going to write down my mood aswell, so later in phase 2 I can tell what effect the reintroduced carbs have.

I'm looking forward to the diet, but I am a bit wary of phase 1. It does seem very restrictive, and I'm going to find giving up fruit and wine the most difficult I think. But phase 2 looks much more like my sort of thing, so hopefully I can stick out the first 2 weeks!

I'm going to the gym tonight were I will get weighed. I did buy a new set of bathroom scales but they weigh my 210lb boyfriend at 280lbs! So I don't think they are very accurate!

Good luck to everyone else starting out this week, and to everyone who is well into the diet, I hope its all going well!

Well I'm near the end of day 1 and so far so good. Here is todays menu.

Breakfast - 2 egg omelette, with 2 small slice cheese, mushrooms, peppers and onions.

Lunch - 1/2 pan homemade lentil soup made with half a cup of lentils, and cottage cheese salad.

Dinner - Steamed smoked haddock, on a bed of stir fried mushrooms, leeks and peppers. Cauliflower and broccoli.

Dessert - sugar free jelly

Snacks -3 tbs pumpkin seeds

Hasn't been too bad. Although I wasn't too impressed having smoked haddock with cauliflower. Will find someting else to go with that next time!

I haven't been weighed yet. My bf and I couldn't really be bothered going to the gym, but I will go tomorrow morning.

Interesting side note. I have followed the WW diet for a while so decided to count up how many points I have had today, just to see how the diets compare in that respect. Came to 22. Last time I went to WW I was on 30 points.

So thats the first day over and done with and no disasters. I have some chickpeas soaking, so I think hummus will be on tomorrows menu. Something to look forward to. Its my favourite

Good luck

Lisa it sounds like you are on the right track. The first few days are the hardest and I know you can get through them. Shortly you won't even be having any cravings for carbs. Keep up the good work and stay motivated!

Start of day 2

Thanks for the encouraging words Wrennly. I don't know anyone who has done South Beach so this board is going to be invaluable to me!

Day 1 went really well. Very easy to stick to, and I had some nice meals. I'm so glad pumpkin seeds are allowed. I love them! But I had trouble sticking to just 3 tbs. I could eat a whole bag in one go. No probs!

I don't know if it is anything to do with the diet, but yesterday I felt very clear headed and alert. I'm usually a bit dozy with my head in the clouds. I would have thought it would take more than a day to see any change though. Maybe I was just having a good day! I will keep track of that though.

I'm definately getting rid of any water weight I have. I spent the whole of the night getting up to go to the loo! 5 times!!! I did drink quite alot of water during the day but I stopped at about 7 so I wouldn't have to be getting up during the night! Still, I suppose all the exercise of running to the loo will be good for me too!

Just had a really yummy breakfast of smoked haddock florentine.
A small fillet of smoked haddock, on a bed of sauted mushrooms, spinach and spring onions, topped with a poached egg and 2 laughing cow triangles melted in the microwave. Served with a grilled tomato. It was delish!! Nicest breakfast I have had in a long time. Took a bit of cooking and prep though. Well too much for early morning anyway. if I have that again I'll precook the spinach mix, so all I will have to do is cook a poached egg. The rest can be nuked.
Quick breakfasts might be a problem on phase 1, and even though I love eggs I don't think I will be able to cope having them every day!

I had 5 cups of coffee yesterday, but I drink decaff anyway. Is this ok do you think?

Anyway, I have lots of housework to do today, and I really must go to the gym tonight to get weighed. Also going to measure myself which will be scary. I will post the results so I can't cheat!

Hello Lisa. I, too, immediately felt "clear headed" once I started SBD. There have been a few times where I became light headed, but that went away after eating a snack. My husband and I have started a routine of making egg casseroles Sunday evenings so we have it through the work week. It's simple to heat a piece of the casserole in the microwave.

Sounds like you are doing great! I havent taken an measurements although I probly should. I guess I will judge it by being able to wear my old clothes again. I too have felt more clearheaded and for once in a longtime actually enjoy being in the kitchen again. I am trying to keep orginized and all and having a ball doing it. I think I am just excited to be on this diet and hoping it works! Well good luck with the rest of your day!

Had a dieting disaster last night. A friends girlfriend was visiting so we took her to out local pub quiz, and dispite my good intentions I had 3 pints of cider. Not good. It is a cut back though. I usually have 4 or 5.
Oh well, I am going to be sensible about it and going straight back on plan. I'm more disappointed with myself for falling off the wagon on only the second day. I knew the strict phase would be difficult for me to fit in around my social life.
I have another hurdle approaching aswell. My brother in law is getting married next Friday, and I think sticking completely to the diet will be impossible, but I will try to make sensible choices. The reception is a carvery, which should be easy enough. Just load up on meat and veggies and avoid the roast potatoes. And I'll stick to red wine, although I think the 2 glass limit will go out the window!

I had a couple of slices of turkey breast for breakfast.
Lunch is going to be 2 low fat sausages with grilled toms and mushrooms and 2 scrambled eggs with a bit of cheese on the top.
Probably chicken salad for dinner, and I have some veg curry left over form last night which I can have as a snack, to up my veg portions for the day.
And NO cider!!!!

After yesterdays slip up I have decided to take today as day 1, phase 1. I actually got myself down to the gym last night and got weighed. The scales weigh in kilos. I was 130.2 which by my calculations makes me 286 and a half lbs. While its quite shocking, its still 5lbs less than I weighed at the beginning of the year.
I finished my workout aswell, so its not all doom and gloom. I'll be going again on Friday.

Lunch was quite nice. Usually with that sort of meal I would have 2 thick pieces of toast, but I didn't even miss them, which suprised me.
Maybe this diet has started working dispite my slip up.

Lisa I think you are doing great besides the slip up. It happens and the book even says it will happen and its not bad as long as you stay on track. I wish you well at the wedding I know its going be hard, why dont we make a pact, cause I am going to visit my grandparents for 4 days. If you promise not to slip too bad at the wedding I promise not to slip while on vacation! MY grandparents are big into potatoes and macaroni and such but I will just cook my own meals. I am not being pushy am I? I just want us both to suceed. Anyway let me know what you think! Ok off to update my journal! Hope your day is going well.

Thats a deal Jill. But i think I'm getting off lightly! I only have the one day to contend with. You have 4!!

Yesterday ended pretty well. I had couple of slices of turkey with laughing cow cheese on them and was really suprised how filling they were.
Dinner was cajun chicken breast and salad, with some ceaser dressing. Not sure if that was legal, but I only had a little. Todays menu will be something like this.

Breakfast Eggs ( again  )
Lunch turkey and hummus salad
Dinner salmon steak and vegetables

I'm missing out on dessert at the moment. It difficult to get hold of lf ricotta here and I just don't fancy doing the recipes with yogurt or cottage cheese. I might make some sugar free jelly, but I can't be eating that every day. I can't wait till I can have fruit again. I'm missing that much more than the starchy potatoes and rice.
