Mamadee

Hi, I'm Mamadee.

I'm 5'3" and weigh 225.5 lbs as of last Tues. I think I weigh more now.

I have already lost some weight, (from 250), but I wasn't being consistent enough with
what I was doing...just watching what I ate.

I know a lot about nutrition in a strictly amateur way, but it still doesn't stop me from
making bad food choices. My biggest problem is eating too much. Once I start, I want to
eat and eat and...well, you get the idea. Since I need more structure I decided to go with
SBD because it seems nutritionally sensible to me.

I admit I'm gonna need some REeducation on some things, like FATS. I've always avoided
fats. I have been learning from SBD and other sources that this is not exactly the thing to
do, but I'm likely to go overboard here because I come from Ky where we HIGHLY
"season" our foods. This means we add a lot of fat usually in the form of bacon grease or
lard.

I have been using olive oil and real butter exclusively for a long time now so I have no
problem with the TYPE of fat, but the AMOUNT is what I need help with.

Yesterday was my first day with SBD and I'd like to post my food for the day so y'all can
tell me what I'm doing right (hopefully :P ) or what I'm doing wrong ( more likely  ).
I'm doing the best I can with what I have, but I haven't been to the grocery store yet.

Planning to do that tomorrow. Is there anything you consider staples that I must get? I
have limited funds and want to buy wisely.

Yesterdays meals:

B: One egg omelet with canned mushrooms and green onions a little low fat cottage
cheese and a sprinkle of reg. fat sharp cheddar cooked in olive oil.

Snack: 15 blanched almonds

Dinner: One egg with one can of mustard greens cooked in olive oil and apple cider
vinegar

Snack: 5...yes, five ...slices of reg fat American cheese

Supper: 1 huge sirloin steak (My dh put teriyaki sauce on it cuz I forgot to
tell him not to)
Frozen veggies cooked in a lot of olive oil (I don't know how much
because dh did the cooking, but they sure tasted
good! )
sugar free jello

I had over 64 oz. water also.

That's it. Whadday'all think?

Is there some way to post my statistics without having to type them over and over?

One last thing...can y'all help me to set a realistic goal for myself? I'm short and old
, 38, and I want to be healthy. To look like a fashion model would be nice, but I DON"T
think that is very realistic, do you? :D

Thanks in advance for all your help. :D

Good luck Mamadee from Ky! A good suggestion for a staple food that is very economical is beans! You can season them up and there are a ton of info on them here in the boards (you can do a search). I know you will do great! :D

what you are eating looks good and although we dont count fat per se, you might want to be careful not to overdo it. Just make sure you only use enough oil to cook the food- not drown it. Also watch the fat content of the cheeses- try to get part skim mozarella sticks. Between the nuts, cheese, oil and fat in the steak- while the foods are primarily ok on their own, it does make for a bit of a fattening day. I am back on P1 after cheating badly, but I try not to do cheese AND nuts as my snacks. I usually have one or the other and then hummus or salsa or FF dip and veggies for the other.

On Tuesday nights, I attend a free wellness clinic where they weigh me and take my BP once a week. In addition, I get measured every two weeks.

I've lost 5 lbs since last Tuesday! I just started SBD Monday so I DON'T think that I lost that much weight overnight, AND I had been a "bad" girl during the previous week so I really expected to gain.

Needless to say, I'm happy this morning!

My dh helped me "celebrate" last night by taking me for a short walk. The best part was that he held my hand most of the way!

In case you're wondering, we've been married for 22 years and I STILL love it when it holds my hand! :wink:On Tuesday nights, I attend a free wellness clinic where they weigh me and take my BP once a week. In addition, I get measured every two weeks.

as a patient yesterday.

He told me that I was doing really well with my weight loss. He said 30 lbs since September is really good.

He looked over the blood test results that I got got from my chiropractor, Dr. Roberts. Dr. Dixon agree yet disagreed with his diagnosis. He said that I don't have anemia, but that I am REALLY low on iron. He prescribed 3 iron pills a day. Dr. R said one.

Dr. D said that the only thing he would change besides that is to cut down on the Chromium Picolinate, (after I take this bottle, I'm to take 3 a day instead of 6), and to add a multivitamin to my supplements.

As to my progesterone cream he said to keep doing that though it may make my mustache (ick) heavier. Then he introduced me to Dr. Frogge who does laser hair removal. I'm just about convince to have it done though it seems silly to pay that much for cosmetic reasons. They both say it is permanent though.

Also he did a TSH, (thyroid test). I will be going back in July to find out what that says. If I'm thyroid deficient he says I will have to go on med's. We will have to talk about that. I think all these supplements are enough to kill me without having to choke down a prescription med too!

Plus, he said to get rid of my knee-highs. My legs tend to retain water and he says that the knee-highs could be "helping" that condition to occur. He told me to wear thigh highs and when I told him that they fall off he told me to go to Victoria's Secrets and buy a garter belt! As if I would go there!! He said it only to shock me and then laughed at me and told me to look at Wal-Mart. ME... in a Victoria's Secrets store? No way, Jose. I practically die of embarrassment when I WALK BY one in the mall.

Dr. D is a really sweet person. It is obvious that he really cares about people. Why else would he work from daylight to dark and then add a free wellness clinic to his schedule? He even is usually the speaker. I really like him for this reason and for the fact that he doesn't freak out if if you do something like a colon or gallbladder cleanse or if you decide to take supplements that HE hasn't approved. He gives you his opinion and leaves you to decide for yourself unlike most doctors who seem to think they know all. His philosophy is that each person is responsible for their own health and he is just there to help them get to where they want to go.

Today is Day 4 of P1 for me. I weigh in at Dr. D's clinic on Tuesday nights so in a few days I'll be able to see how I'm doing. :)

See ya next time! (Why did I suddenly think of Levar Burton??)

Hi Momma

Just wanted to say that the thyroid meds are super important. The thyroid controls the rate of function of every cell and gland of the body, including growth, repair and metabolism. Thyroid hormones affect the chemistry of the brain, playing a key role in mental function, moods and emotions. A lot of people are diagnosed with Depression, when actualy it's their thyroid gland.

I have take meds about 4-6 months of the year because my thryroid just stops working, then for some reason docs haven't figured, it starts working again.

As for the cheese. I use regular fat cheese when I can't find low fat cheese, I'm still losing, so I''m not really concerned, though maybe instead of 5 slices, eat 2 and have some nuts.

Mamadee

been a good week. I have stayed really close to the SBD food plan with the exception of a couple of things.

I am looking forward to Tuesday night to see if I lose any more weight. I'm really heavy and I need to lose a LOT. If I don't lose, I get really discouraged.

I'm supposed to see Dr. D again in July to find out about the thyroid thing, but I don't think I have anything to worry about and neither does he. He just wanted to rule it out for sure because it can be such a hinderance healthwise.

I'm kinda nervous about the weekend coming up since the weekend is where I always mess up. I'm pretty sure I'll be okay because the "not hungry" phase has kicked in and I don't think I'll be wanting to eat everything in site. However, I've messed up so many other times that I'm sorta dreading it.

My dh took me fishing tonight. We had such a good time. He didn't know it, but I spent a good part of the time just looking at him. He is so precious and I adore him. I love to see him happy, and he seemed happy while we were out so I'm happy too! We even caught some fish. :D

I wonder how many calories you burn while paddling a boat and using a fishing reel? :?

Well gotta go. My dh is indicating that it is time for me to get off the Net.

I didn't do too badly today.

I did get the munchies in the evening, but I wasn't hungry. I just wanted to eat because I was a little bored and I wasn't feeling real good today. I did munch some, but it was all SBD friendly foods.

Anyway, I'm happy with today because usually I pig out totally on weekends and I didn't do that this time. Of course, there is still tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I'll do okay though. (Positive thinking here. :P )

Day 6 of Phase 1 is satisfactory though I wish I hadn't munched at all.

I'm just WAITING for weigh-in day. I am dreaming of losing 10 lbs! Reality will be more like 2 or less, but even that would make me happy!

Well, it's bedtime and I'm tired. Night all! :)

I got through the weekend. I didn't cheat. Well, I'm not sure actually.

I had an orange cream bar from DQ today. It had 3 grams of sugar in it. The package said "No Sugar Added" and "Fat Free". The sugar content is what you look for, right? Or is that total carbs, because if it is then that ice cream was definitely a cheat. The rest of my day was legal.

Does anyone KNOW if the ice cream bar IS legal? I would like to know for sure.

Tomorrow I start Week 2 of Phase 1. I am anxious for Tuesday to arrive so I can know how well I've done. I know I have done well with the food part. I just hope the weight part reflects it.

I usually splurge on Sundays so today was a little tough for me. I'm proud of myself that I stuck with it. Now I can get up tomorrow with a good feeling about myself instead having to feel down in the dumps.

Can ya tell I'm happy? :D

begins my 2nd and last week of Phase 1. Next week, I'll be able to add some more food. I don't really see that as being possible since I'm not all that hungry now and it may be hard to eat anything more....YIPPEE! I'm not ravenous all the time!!! You don't know how GOOD it feels not to be hungry! :o)

I also added some tummy exercises to my day. I really need to do something about my gut.

I have some really pretty dresses that I could wear again because they fit well now...all except for the belly area. They're just too tight. I'm afraid that by the time they fit through the belly they'll big too big everywhere else. Not that I'd fuss too much...:o)

I do wish I could think of something besides eggs for breakfast...just for a change. I LUV eggs. Country eggs, especially. Mmmmm.

Anyway, I'm proud to be through with Week 1 of Phase 1. Guess I'd better go change my profile! :)

Congrats on making it through week 1! This next one really isn't as hard as you think it might be, now that the cravings are gone. Isn't it GREAT not to feel hungry??? When you start P2, do it slowly and see what does give you cravings. For me it's grains (especially in the a.m.) I absolutely hate the feeling of being hungry, craving stuff, when I KNOW I'm not really hungry. Also, P2 isn't really about adding more food, but about adjusting the foods that you are currently eating. Instead of 2 eggs for breakfast, for instance, you might have 1 egg and some cereal/toast/whatever. Dinner it might be replacing part of the meat serving or one of the servings of vegis with a serving of brown rice. Anywho, you'll do great!

Mamadee

do as you suggest...add one food at a time. I think that would be a good way to pick up on any food allergies a person may have. It's not that I think I do, I just want to be sure I don't.

Believe it or not, I've enjoyed Phase 1. The reason...I'm NOT hungry!! YAY! YIPPEE! and WOOHOO, even!

I'm so relieved that I can go through a day without wanting to try eating my kitchen appliances that I can't begin to tell how happy I am. I don't dread Week 2 at all.

The only thing I can "complain" about is low energy. I'm not totally zonked, but I just need a little more "git up'n go!" I'm sure that that will get better when I start Phase 2 this Monday.

This is Day 9 for me and I'll be weighing in for the first time tonight. It seemed like Tuesday would NEVER get here. I feel like I've lost weight but, whether I have or not, I'm telling everybody about not feeling hungry on SBD. I have such a hard time believing that it's real, but it is.

Did I mention that I'm SO happy??? (Long contented sigh) :D

Mamadee

Did you notice? I now have a current weight listed in my stats? I'm in the 2-teens now.

I lost 2 1/2 pounds this week, and I'm so thrilled. I haven't seen the 2-teens in years.

I know it isn't the typical loss for Phase 1 of SBD, but I was working on this several months before I started SBD so I had no water weight to lose. Therefore, I'm very happy with the 2.5 lbs.

I'm even happier with the fact that I'm no longer hungry! :D That is the best thing in the world. It's awful to feel ravenous all the time! To be honest, the fact that the claim of no hunger held up is shocking to me. I never expected it to be real. There are SO many people and SO many diets claiming SO many things that just are not reality... and then there is SBD which delivers on it's promises. WOW!

Did I mention this week that I'm happy? Well, just wanted to be sure you know!

I'm looking forward to Phase 2 already! :D

:D :D :D Congratulations on the weight loss! :D :D :D

I agree, it's amazing to actually experience what is said about this diet. Losing cravings, not hungry, better health, etc. (My neighbor's cholesterol went from his all time low of 175, his usual being at 225, down to 115!!!)

Good luck with the rest of this week. Stay happy!
