Hi all. I just recently got re-interested in my eating habits after getting gross by the end of my first year in college. I used to always say i would never gain the freshman fifteen, but sure enough the studies/organization involvement/naps take from exercise time; the beer is everywhere and i heart it; dorm food is not the best. i actually never laid hands on a krispe kreme that was sold right downstairs, but still managed to put on atleast 15 lbs. i've had some emotional/bad eating problems in the past, but thankfully i ended such disordered eating on my own a year ago. i'm now ready to get motivated and start this healthy diet for myself. so, after reading the book and hitting the grocery store, i'm ready for the beach!
i'm a 5'0" shortie who is at about 123 lbs. i used to be on the swim team in high school, but then switched over to just running/weight lifting. this yr i was quite sedentary but managed to go to a yoga/pilates class weekly. for some twisted reason i do better at wanting to work out/tone up the lighter i am. right now, i'm just discouraged in general exercise-wise and think this SB business is perfect for me! hopefully i will start walking/running here really soon.
this board is amazing. i can sit here for hours at a time and just read through tons of these great posts, ideas, successes, and advice from these great real people doing the same thing. i really look forward to my first day on the diet tomorrow!
Current Weight: 123
Goal Weight: <110
i'm short, it's healthy. : )
see you all around! |

ahh half way thru my first day. been checking out these journals and was ready to go ahead and make another post.
so far i have done fine today. i want to make sure i eat 'enoughh' because i don't want my metabolism to go way down and defeat the entire purpose of eating better. i'm starting to develop a slight headache so i am going to have my beloved diet coke. however, i'm surprised i did okay all morning/early afternoon with out one and will definitely be weening myself from caffiene (or atleast lowering my consumption mucho).
B-two scrambled eggs, two slices turkey bacon
S-moz cheese stick
L-lettuce wrap with turkey, green peppers, mushrooms, sprinkled cheese, newman's own light italian dressing; two SF ice pops (20 cal/pop)
S-will be some nuts
D-undetermined, having it with my SBDer mom tonite, probably some grilled chicken and a salad
S-probably another ice pop, i love those things!!
hope everyone is having a wonderful day. i have a job interview this afternoon, dinner with mom, and then seeing a movie with her as well. now, i am off to clean up and get pretty for that interview...i really need a PT job and this one is right on campus where i'll be going to summer school. : ) cross those fingers! |

hey, we're alike! I'm 5' 1" and 117 now, my goal is 110. I know how being small, just having 5 pounds looks like a lot.
You look like you're doing good. Btw, the mozorella stick, is that low fat? B/c I was at walmart and could not find the low fat mozorella sticks anywhere! |

yes it's part-skim..it took me a while to find them too (at HEB) and i think everyone was staring at me wondering why i was taking so long to pick up a damn pack of cheese sticks. but anyways, you just hafta look carefully because on my pack it wasn't advertised boldly at all and barely looked different than the other regular ones.
great to see another person who relates to the shortness! so how has your diet been going? which phase/day are you in/on? |

Hello fellow shorties! Just wanted to give a word of caution that even though we are short, most of the target weight for us is 115-140 depending on our body frames(small, medium, and large). If we go below that it can be unhealthy. I'm jsut leaving this word of caution because my cousin (4ft 10) was 120, then went down to 105 and ended up in the hospital because she was undernourished.
Please be careful....much love. |

I'm in phase 1 still, going on my second week. It's been a struggle b/c I'm asian and used to eating my RICE!!!! and I'm first to admit I'm not the most educated when it comes to the SBD. I read the book this weekend but still I'm kind of lost when it comes to what to eat or not. I was also extremely cranky and taking it out on my husband this past weekend too.
I get so agitated watching them eat whatever they want. He even whined when he lost 4 pounds this week (b/c we were eating lost of steak and salad). POOR him! Me, I feel like I've been so deprived for the past week by not having my rice and bread..and I've lost 4 pounds (yo yoing between 1/2 - 1 pound) for the past couple of days. Why is it so much easier for men!!
Hanging in there..... |

paiger81, you are absolutely right about being careful dipping towards 100. by no means do i wanna be super skinny, i just know how i used to look and feel at a lower weight based on, say 2 yrs ago, and am determined to get back to that healthy feel. besides, short and chunky is cute!

Greetings from another nat,
I am also trying to lose my freshman 15 (which I put on a few years ago). I've lost 15 already and have another 10-15 to go.
I would suggest that you measure as well to keep track of your progress- especially if you are exercising.

gnat, best name ever btw. good idea about the measuring..i'm going to do that tomorrow.
so, PH1 Day 1 basically over! just need to stay in my room and not look at the kitchen as i've heard the temptations creep up those first two or three nites...jk i'm okay! i'm so proud of myself actually...first time i went to a movie and didn't get some hot tamales or popcorn. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G or, 'that's so fetch!' as a Mean Girl might say. ; )
my mom wanted to have dinner with me but didnt have anything at the house. we ended up going to wendy's..i got one of those new grilled chicken sandwiches, tossed the bread with smiles, ate the chick and tomatoes too (i never would do that)! i also had a caesar side salad minus the croutons and most of the baco bits and plus my mom's lite dressing v. theirs. is this a decent way to modify a fast food restaurant or am i missing something?
i also had another ice pop before the movie...anyone else notice how colored the sugar free pops make your mouth?? i swear my other popcicles weren't as embarrasing to eat!
well anyways, ms. australia won miss universe...i might study abroad there. okay enough chit-chat..bless you for reading all this if you did. |

yay, almost done with day 2. i did just fine again today, but it is quite hard when you are just hanging around the house. thankfully tomorrow things will pick up with school and i will be more busy.
today i had:
B- 2 scrambled eggs w/ 1 slice turkey chopped in
S- a yummy black bean concoction: 1/2 cup blackbeans, diced garlic clove, diced mushroom, and some yummy spices
L- tuna lettuce wrap w/ mustard (actually really tasty); sliced cucumbers w/ hummus to dip
S- mozerella stick, 2 ice pops
D- big salad w/ lite italian dressing, cucumbers; 2 scrambled eggs (forgot to pull the chicken or fish out of the freezer..grr)
S- will probably be another ice pop
drinks- 1 diet coke, lots of water, a cup of green tea (amazing, bc i used to hate tea)
anyhoo, let me know if you find something i should do better. i know i should eat more veggies, but i have never liked them, so i am slowly adding more in. i realized i really like cucumbers..those will probably be around a lot. if anyone else has similar taste, how did you get yourself to eat more veggies?
like i said, today has been mellow and fine. however, although i had planned to stay in tonite and get rested for class tomorrow am, a friend called and invited me to an early bday bash for two of my girlfriends...eeeek!! this will be my first time to say no to beer and cake! and i know they will question....i hope they understand and dont push it like some ppl do...blah. this may be weird/hard. |

this diet is working nicely. today is day 3. i weighed myself again (i no i no bad) and lost 2 more pounds. i just feel great overall. and, last nite i was able to successfully return home sober and sugarfree! i got a little resistance from friends who were wondering where the usually, normally drunk nat was at, but that's understandable.
also, first day of class was nice. the hike from my car to class and then back, is probably a total of 20-25 minutes because of the awful parking problems at UT...blah guess that's a con of going to the biggest school in the nation. oh well, it's some exercise? however, it is hot as hell and i would rather not...but whatever.
today:
B-2 eggs w/ cheese
S-cucumbers, lots
L-more black bean concoction (added garlic, shrooms, random spices) and topped it with some shredded string cheese this time; ice pop
S-15 almonds, serving of tuna with a little mustard to juice it up (may be a weird combo but i loove mustard)
D-big salad, grilled salmon, some tomatoes drizzled with olive oil
S-will have some SF strawberry kiwi jello before another movie tonite!
so yea, think the dad got jealous of my movie nite with mom so he offered to take me to see day after tomorrow this evening. heard it wasn't super special and was mostly special effects, but that's okay, looks fun. so yes, movie #2 with no popcorn or hot tamales! so i am off to that...have a nice nite!

ahh, last nite was hard. went out with the BF and friends...them all drinking. but i managed and was super proud i didn't sip a drink, bc the morning weigh was down another 1.5 lbs!! i'm so glad i am doing things right. today has been kind of all over the place because i was running around after class, but hopefully i'll have a good dinner (i made that balsamic chicken..hope it's yummy).
B-2 eggs
S-cucumbers, 15 almonds
L-grilled chicken, sliced tomatoes, moz cheese stick
S-moz cheese stick, SF fudgsicle
D-balsamic chicken, big salad w/ cucumbers and tomatoes
S-probably be an ice pop
man, today my BF ordered a diet coke from sonic...i took atleast 3 sips from it and questioned if it was really diet. (diet cokes have been sweet to me lately so it's hard to tell). he tasted and said yep that's coke. grrr!! that little bit of sugar isn't going to screw anything up right? i've been doing too good... : )
alright, first weekend of zero beer in a loong time. but i love it, i'm so much better off!
let me know how things are going.. |
