Maximilian

Finally decided to give it a go!

I'm a flight attendant and was told about SBD by a colleague during a Tokyo flight. Luck has it that I was then sent to Miami where I was inspired to try it out while I was shopping! I couldn't find the book, not even at the airport (the shops at the airport are dire!) but I managed to get the SBD good carbs book which informed me pretty well. Also, the UK thread on this website is really helpful.

Anyway, my partner and I started today because my sister in Italy is getting married in 19 days time and we both need to lose the spare tyre around our waists (or part thereof) so we look half decent ...

We're both Italian so it's tough to exclude bread, pasta and rice. So far, so good!
Pizza is easy.... not all Italians eat it constantly (I think Americans are the biggest consumers of pizza in the world)
Splenda helps a lot and because it has that artificial aftertaste, it's helping us avoid coffee, which can't be bad.

Italian cooking uses lots of vege's, so that's great, but the carb cravings really hit us big time this evening... 30 pistacchios each and more lemon zest dessert....

Anyway, this is what I consumed today:

Mug of coffee, Splenda & 0.8% fat milk
1x almond paste biscuit (had to accept this for good relations: neighbour)
2x glasses of tomato juice
Lebanese grilled strips of lean beef
Green beans and tomato stew
5x olives
Pickled turnips (without sugar)
4x sliced tomatoes
1 can diet coke
Another glass of tomato juice
Fat free quark & fat free fromage fraiche lemon zest dessert
Lemon & garlic Turkey cutlets
Steamed asparagus
Steamed broccoli dressed with lemon & olive oil
Caprese salad (without mozzarella)
2x Babybel light round cheese
Another cup of lemon zest dessert
30x pistacchio nuts
Rooibos tea to go to bed, with splenda

Lord of the rings volume 1 DVD, to distract!!!

Good luck everybody! I'll post tomorrow night again.

Arrivederci e buon appetito!

Hello all,

You know, I developed a massive headache after posting last night, had to take a pill. Probably due to the lack of caffeine. Anyway, slept really well and this is what I ate:

Coffee, 1% milk, Splenda
3 egg omelette with mushrooms, tomato and 2x turkey bacon rashers
3x glasses tomato juice (Tesco's is disgusting, will go back to Del Monte)
10x pistacchio nuts (10 not 30..yippee!)
Mug of decaf coffee with candarel (nutrasweet) & skim milk
1x Babybel light round cheese
1x scoop sugar free 3% fat ice cream
Courgette, onion, runner beans and tomato ratatoille (main course)
Salad: strips of leftover lemon turkey cutlets, chickpeas & tomatoes, without dressing, just a pinch of salt
Very small piece of parmesan cheese, close to the rind (less fat!)
Mug of rooibos tea with half a Splenda sachet

DVD of Lord of the rings 2 to enjoy (but those orks are really horrible) :x

I got the urge to go for a long walk, so off I went to Selfridges! Tried getting the SBD book, but it's been sold out for weeks! Every time stock arrives, it's sold out almost immediately...
However, off I went to the Waterstones nearby and found it!
NB UK readers: They're on special 3 for 2 at the moment, so go for it! (makes a good "random act of kindness" gift)
The normal price is a rather fab £10.99, which is cheaper than Amazon.co.uk, where it's on for £13.99 (then add the postage and it's daylight robbery!)

Cut a long story short, I must have walked for a total of 40 minutes, so that must have burned a bit of fuel from my spare tyre, I hope!

I have a question: are the following allowed and if so, what quantity?:

Olives
Butternut squash
Biltong (the delicious South African delicacy)
Hoummus

Also, are there any ready made desserts available for phase1 in the UK?

Thanks everyone and I must add that I'm not suffering!
Please leave me any comments or tips, this forum is really fantastic! Thanks everyone for the invaluable info.

Ciao!

Thanks Kelsey!

Today was great, but I'm still not looking at the scale...
Also, I wasn't feeling hungry as much today, Wow!
Got no replies on the butternut squash, olives or hoummus, so used them:

B: 1 egg omelette with turkey bacon, mushrooms & a tomato with sprinkle of parmesan
Coffee, 1% milk & Splenda

S: 11 pistacchio nuts

L: Fattoush salad (without the crispy bread bits)
Runner beans & tomato stew
Tomato juice

S: 1x Babybel light round cheese

D: Savoury chicken (SBD recipe)
Oven roasted vegetables: Butteernut, Asparagus & Courgettes (Zucchini)
Home made Hoummus, ate with lettuce instead of pita bread
Cucumber & tomato salad with drizzle of olive oil

Dessert: Vanilla dessert (SBD recipe), but tasted awful, I must be doing something wrong.

DVD of Lord of the rings vol.3 - what an ending, made this grown man cry!

Any suggestions for desserts other than ricotta ones?

Good luck and let's keep going,
Ciao,
Max!

I can't answer your questions because have never heard of any of it.
There is a food thread in a nother forum on here you might post that question there. You will get more people reading your journal if you leave messages in others. Darlene is the person I would ask those questions she seems to fix everything. Keep up the good work.

Olives are fine...not sure if there is a specific quantity allowed, I always just have a few in my salads.

I dont know about the butternut squash...seems like it would be fine.

One of the main ingrediants used in the Biltong is brown sugar, so unless you could get a sugar free type version then I doubt you should each much, maybe just a lil once in a while. Its similar to beef jerky, and were not really supposed to be eating that.

Hummus is great, lots of people enjoy it...It just ground chick peas anyway, lots of people on the forum use it for dipping vegies in.

The baked custard dessert, plain, flavored, or with rhubarb is great -- made it last night from Dolly-VA's recipe post.

I'm also Italian, have been re-visiting SBD as a great version of the Mediterranean diet -- staying on Ph. 1 for another week. We're not finding the cooking/preparation too onerous, as long as there is plenty of fresh produce in the house.

Good luck to you and your partner, ciao. Paola

Darlene, Kelsey and Paola thank you for your messages, you're so lovely, all of you!

Today was very interesting... you know what? when I got up I had my usual cuppa coffee, then...nothing! I just wasn't hungry. I started getting a little concerned (wait for it:) after four hours! I was really amazed. Normally I'm mister hypoglycaemic scary creature in the morning... shaking if I don't have something within 30 mins of my first coffee.
Just amazing, I feel something's changing inside my digestive system. For the better

Coffee, 1% milk & a Splenda

B: 1 egg omelette with turkey bacon, 2x tomatoes and 6 mushrooms, sprinkle of parmesan
Decaf instant coffee, 1% milk & a Splenda

L: Nothing, I skipped lunch, I was busy, but wasn't hungry at all
S: 1x Babybel Light round cheese

D: 3x spring rolls (blob of hoummus sprinkled with parmesan & wrapped with a leaf of lettuce- our visiting neighbour scoffed three as well!)
Leftover savoury turkey breast, with sauteed runner beans left to cool then sprinkled with vinaigrette dressing

Dessert: 1 scoop sugar free choc ice, 3% fat

S: 30 x pistacchio nuts

Decaf instant coffee, 1% milk & a Splenda

And that's all...except I weighed myself (I couldn't resist any longer) and I've lost a kilo!!! That's almost 2 pounds in four days. I love this diet. Now I understand why people are raving about it.

I'm off to Tokyo tomorrow, so we'll see what happens there. I've prepared a lunch box with runner beans and sugar snap peas, but those cashew nuts on the bar top in the Upper Class cabin are going to tempt me, I must remember only 15 allowed!

Japan's a paradise for fish lovers, but I can only eat tuna, I'll also have to avoid those delicious breaded pork cutlets and the rice...

I'll try to post if I can, but apologies in advance if I'm late tomorrow night.

Buonanotte a tutti (G'night y'all)
Max!

Hi Kelsey

Yes, I'm a flight attendant for Virgin Atlantic Airways, part of the Virgin group (music megastores, soft drinks, mobile phones, luxury boutique hotels, etc but the core business is the airline)

I love my job and have been with Virgin for 14 years now. A colleague of mine recommended SBD to me. He lost 7 pounds in the first week. I thought: I gotta look trim for my sister's ceremony! Get dieting!

The food on board is quite nutritious, and features lots of vegetables and salads. Desserts are dangerous 'cos they're too rich and delicious....
An added bonus is that we serve tomato juice on our flights, as much as you want, so see you on board!

Gotta get my "prepare-for-jet-lag" sleep!

Thanks for your support, it's invaluable.

Good night,
Max!

Good evening!
I just returned from Tokyo, while I was there, rainy season started!

So, let's try to remember what I ate since Friday morning:

B: 2 egg omelette with tomato, cooked chopped ham & mushrooms
Coffee with 1%fat milk & Splenda

Got on board & had an espresso with Sweet 'n Low (damn, forgot the Splenda at home...)
After take off had a small salad with shavings of parmesan
During the flight ate my steamed-at-home-the-night-before sugar snap peas and runner beans, drizzled with spicy vinaigrette. Followed by sugar free hot chocolate drink (41 calories)
Drank almost 2 litres of water
After 12 hours we land into Tokyo and I'm still not hungry...this is weird. I wasn't even tempted by the snacks on the bar unit...not even a single olive!
Get to the hotel, and it's 10am of Saturday, so figure i'd better go to the gym (burned 300 calories on the step machine) then swam for a bit.
Went shopping and finally decided to have a few slices of Korean grilled beef (without the rice-yahoo!) and then an hour later, I succumbed to one scoop of lemon sugar free sorbet.

D: Cubes of grilled beef with stir fry veg, little side salad
Decaf coffee, Japanese "Slim-up" sweetener & cream (!)

Next day:
B: Scrabled eggs on 4 small slices of cooked ham, 1 cup plain yoghurt, half grapefruit & 1 glass grapefruit juice, coffee with Japanese "Slim-up" sweetener & cream...!
S: 250 ml light soya milk
L: just coffee with Japanese "Slim-up" sweetener & cream, then 2x cups black tea. I forgot to have lunch 'cos I was too busy running around Shinjuku with a great Japanese friend!
S: 7 macadamia nuts
D: 8 gyoza (potstickers), huge salad with soy dressing, huge dish of stir fried veg but I didn't touch the carrots, almost a litre of diet Coke!
Nightcap: Sugar free hot chocolate drink (41 calories)

Today
B: Coffee with Japanese "Slim-up" sweetener & cream
250ml plain yoghurt
S: (after take off) 15 peanuts, cup of tea and then cappuccino with Sweet n Low 1% fat milk
L: Fillet of beef with sugar snap peas & shredded cabbage & peppers salad, vinaigrette dressing
S: Espresso with Sweet n low

After an 11 hour 30 min, flight, I still wasn't hungry...

D: Huge salad with two tomatoes and tuna, then 100g edamame (steamed chilled soybeans in their pods)
Nightcap: ginger & lemon tea with Splenda.

And that's what I ate on my trip to Japan. Funny, although I really missed my favourite foods there, I never was hungry.
I weighed myself and it looks like I've lost another KG!

Goodnight and good luck,
Max!

Hello fellow beachers

I just had to tell you: I've just had brunch and my shower, then couldn't resist it any longer: had to weigh myself.... I've lost another kilo!

So, I started Phase 1 a week ago and I weighed 81kg (180 pounds) and a week later I'm 78.2kg (173 pounds).

I've lost 2.8kg/6 pounds in one week!

Please, if you are in any doubt, try this diet because it works! I was a bit skeptical but the proof's in the (sugar free) pudding!

Take care all of you,
Max! :D

Sorry, made a mistake!

Hello again

Well, it's hot in London (32 degrees) and I love it! Plus, all my trousers feel loose.

Yesterday
B: Omelette with tomatoes and turkey bacon; coffee with 1% fat milk & Splenda

S: Babybel light rouund cheese

L: Not hungry

S: 29 pistacchio nuts

D: Fake chili con carne (used Quorn meat substitute) ..delicious!

S: Cadbury's Options light dark chocolate drink (41 calories)

Today
B: Omelette with tomatoes, mushrooms and turkey bacon; coffee with 1% fat milk & Splenda

L: Mixed salad with tomatoes

S: Soy Starbucks decaf cappuccino with Sweet n low at the Oxford street Starbucks. At £1.79 for the smallest, it's a rip off and tastes so weak I almost mistook it for dish water! Never again.
Then went to a new ice cream place in Leicester square & had their sugar free, fat free peach sorbet. Heaven!
D: Bresaola with lemon, olive oil & shavings of parmesan; leftover Chili; steamed sugar snap peas.

S: Ricotta vanilla dessert but it was so awful that my partner made us each a cup of soy ice cream (with real sugar - i can't handle that sweetness anymore)

So an hour later we got cravings and had to have 4 slices of speck prosciutto (like parma ham but smoked) with light cheese. Damn, my first cheat and I don't feel happy at all.

Off to drown my sorrows in bed with a nug of rooibos tea...

Max
